I know I've heard of a place that does nickel plating in Oakland, CA, but I can't seem to find their info. Any help? Other places near the Bay Area?

    Good prices and good service?

    Thanks!

Call Patrick Ottis in Berkeley. He restores Ferraris for a living and they have many(!) nickel plated parts. A very nice, very helpful gentleman. (510) 849-3553

Isn't nickel plating part of most chrome plating processes? If so, maybe any chrome shop could do that.

Yes, but from what I understand not all places that nickel do chrome, and there is supposed to be a place that does low-buck nickel in Oakland. I think it's after the nickeling that the chrome process gets more toxic. Don't quote me though.

15 Years ago Don Thelan built a 32 roadster using nickel plating for the bright work. He explained to me that the nickel plating used on 1920s luxury cars was a different type nickel than what is used under chrome plating. It was known as "German Silver" back then. Gun restorers would also know where to get this process done.

There is a hole-in-the wall plating place on Adaline, where it meets MLK in Berkeley. I have to do a delivery over there tomorrow. I will check it out.

There is a place off high street just below the 880 that does galvanizeing. Not sure if they do anything else.

Ha, I just drove by them on my way back from 7-11.

Keep me posted on what you find out, or how it turns out, if you use them.

Haven't had a call for plating yet, but it would be good to know if there is a good one close by.

I get a kick out of that place... big ol sign that says "Pacific Galvanizing" and the metal building where it is located is all rusted to shit.

I have had parts plated from them.
They do a good deal of parts for production type work that is not high quality. You have to be really specific with what you expect.
I have had to have them re-do a few things but they did them without any hesitation and they came out great.
It's also good to keep checking on your progress. Their system of following up or calling you is pretty much non-existant.

P.S. Double park right in front of the entrance if you want to drive away with all the parts on your car you came with.

  18. I had these guys do some stuff on my '38 woodie. It was absolutely the worst fucking experience I've ever had building a car. Don't get me started...

Recently Faith Plating in Santa Clara did a great job nickel plating the headlight bar on my rpu. Looks great and was on time and on budget.

if you polish your stuff before dropping it off,
the outcome will be alot better,
and you'll save alot of money.
High-end chrome shops make there money and quality in the polishing.
