Grundy auto ins

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by ALLSTEEL30FORD, Jan 18, 2010.

  1. I have Hagerty Auto Ins. now on my 30 Ford Roadster PU.
I am thinking of changing to Grundy Auto Ins. which is much cheaper, by $ 200.00 for the same coverage.

    Please comment on Grundy Ins.

    Thanks ,
    Bob

I've had Grundy for years. Changed from Hagerty. Extremely happy and the savings per year for the exact same coverage is hard to beat.

  3. A no brainer for me..I have not had to make a claim. But the saving over the last four years has easily paid the premiuns.

Switched from Hagerty to Grundy years ago for the same reason stated above. Same amount of stated value coverage for a lot less money. We all need insurance and especially now have to save on cost.

Sounds like I need to check out Grundy. I currently have Hagerty and thought their rates were very reasonable but saving money, well saves money.

Always wondered if insurance companies stand behind their stated value coverage. Anyone on here had to turn in a claim?

  6. I also, have had Grundy for years. I never have filed a claim however. Another option is, if you are a member of AARP, the rates are reasonable thru Hartford. I would get a quote from each. AARP was actually cheaper, in my case. I will be switching when my annual is up.

Make the change you will be glad you did. Not to hi jack this thread, but a friend of mine had the other and his car went through a garage fire two years ago and he is still fighting them. I have Grundy and happy with them, I'm glad I made the change.

I also switched for the same reason. But I've yet to have a reason to use it, thankfully. I did have a fender bender with my old car with Hagerty coverage and they fixed it promptly with no hassles (my painter / repair guy runs a certified repair shop with years of experience with all types of vehicles and is well entrenced in the auto insurance world). I have NO reason to doubt Hagerty's service or coverage. Still, it just got too costly so I also had to look elsewhere.

I'd like to hear from guys with reapair experiences thru Grundy, please. Gary

In comparing the two, Hagerty provided coverage for open mileage. Grundy had limited the miles driven, and type of use! So rather than get into a use or miles driven jam, upon claim submit, I went w/Hagerty.
    Read w/care the terms.
Denise puts some miles on, so perhaps the plan she has is right.

I asked Grundy to quote once and mentioned that the car might be driven to work or the grocery store occaisionally and they denied coverage. It seems driving a special interest auto for purely recreational use can not be combined with any other activity.

I don't care to debate the nature of my driving with anyone in the event of a claim, so it's not likely I will be calling them again.

Both Hagerty and Grundy's coverage is an AGREED VALUE policy, not stated value. A stated value policy is what your daily driver has.

Not sure who told you Grundy has a mileage limit but they do not. I think perhaps you might be confusing the two companies.

As far as claims go, Dad had one with Grundy with his '40 Ford. Paid no problem.

I have Grundy. Love Grundy. Period.

In terms of claims, Grundy treats you like family. I've been through both a repairable accident and a total loss and they've been nothing but total class.

Grundy covers my shop and my shop truck, I would have not got the coverage or the price if I went to a regular insurance company that did not understand the difference between my shop and any other mechanic or auto body.

  21. Well thats not what the owner said on the tv show with dennis gage a couple of weeks ago,he said if you want to drive it to work or to the store once a week or so thats no problem...........and they have been cool when I asked them about that same thing....so I will stick with them, they are treating me right, also do a SEARCH of grundy this has been covered alot before in the last year or so...

Listen to Denise here. I wish I had known the difference when I insured my Model A. I had a head-on collision with the car and it was totaled. I had an agreed value policy through my regular insurer and battled for 7 months to get what I deserved for the car.

I do work for both companies. They both pay their claims quickly and per the policy.

Neither company has a mileage limitation. Neither of them wants the car used as a daily driver. Going to the grocery store sounds to me like daily driving.

Both require secure parking/storage. No carports.

Not sure about health insurance, but Grundy's parent company (Philadelphia Insurance) has my business insurance.

A note about mileage. The reason collector car insurance is cheaper is because the insurance company figures that the car will not see the same perils your daily driver would (rush hour, parking lot dents, etc.). If you want to use the car as a daily driver, get daily driver insurance.

When you make a claim, the appraiser (me) will get pictures of the serial number or VIN number (you have that, right?), the odometer and your license plate. They'll also usually get a photo from all 4 corners to document the car. I saw a Camaro that had 27K put on it over the course of the year. But you wouldn't know it by looking at it. I've seen other cars used as daily drivers and the wear was evident. Do you think this will raise a red flag? It may not get a claim denied, but it can get you cancelled after paying the claim. By the way, the Camaro mileage was from a few long trips. But no stone chips or any other visible wear.

At the same time, if I come out to someone's house, and the only thing you have is a carport, I have to report that. Many guys rent storage units and park the cars there. Not a bad idea.

I currently have Hagerty coverage. Called Grundy for a quote and they were more money. I haven't made the switch. Just check your policy details carefully.

  25. I've had Hagerty for 12 years now. Had to file a claim on four vehicles that were damaged or destroyed in a tornado. They came out quickly, paid out quickly and fairly, so I've no complaints with them.

    With that said...

Since it's nearly time for renewal, it pays to shop around and compare, anyway. We'll see who gets my business then. I've heard almost nothing but good things about both companies.

Hey all!!! Good to see our name popping up in today's conversation!! I am going to post an article I just wrote this month re: shopping insurance. One thing I do want to point out is that ALL of our policies include UNLIMITED MILEAGE - we do NOT have mileage restrictions. And, as Denise mentioned, our policies are Agreed Value. And yes, your car is covered for the amount we agree is the value of the vehicle. Period. :) Please see below:

    <link rel="File-List" href="file:///C:%5CDOCUME%7E1%5Cbecky%5CLOCALS%7E1%5CTemp%5Cmsohtml1%5C01%5Cclip_filelist.xml"><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" images="" smilies="" redface.gif="" border="0" alt="" title="Embarrassment" smilieid="2" class="inlineimg"></o:smarttagtype> What to Look for when You Shop for Collector Car Insurance<o></o>
    Tips from Grundy Worldwide<o></o>
    <o></o>
    By: Becky McLaughlin<o></o>
    <o></o>
Collector car owners can be found across this country; in fact, they are all over this world. Since members of the Grundy family and their friends started restoring and preserving old cars many years ago, outside of Philadelphia, the hobby has boomed in popularity and participation; and, it constantly evolves and grows. Today, there are “car guys” of all kinds: from the antique car owners who cherish the history and preservation of their cars to the muscle car and hot rod owners who divulge in nostalgia… and, from the low-riders of Southern California and the tattooed crowd that partakes in the “Kustom Kulture” scene… to the luxury car owners who attend Concours events. As diverse as these folks may be, they all have one thing in common: they love old cars.
    <o></o>
While possessing such love and passion for old cars, it seems natural that car guys would seek out special insurance to protect their most valued possessions. During the search for insurance for a specialty vehicle, there are a few things we at Grundy Worldwide would advise car collectors to consider. We have compiled the following list to help you shop for collector vehicle insurance. We, of course, urge you to insure with us!
    <o></o>

    • Agreed Value Insurance<o></o>
    • What’s Covered
    • Superior Claims Service<o></o>
    • Company Reputation<o></o>
    • Customer Service <o></o>
    • Usage, Storage and Mileage Restrictions<o></o>
    • Price<o></o>
    <o></o>
    Agreed Value Insurance<o></o>
<o></o>When insuring your collector vehicle, it is critical that you seek out “Agreed Value” coverage. Over 60 years ago, James Grundy, Sr. invented the idea of Agreed Value insurance, and it has worked ever since. With Agreed Value insurance, you, the customer, and we, the insurance company, agree on the value of your collector car. In case of a total loss, you will receive that amount—it’s that simple.
    <o></o>
A handful of other companies have picked up on the Agreed Value idea; yet, there are still many companies offering policies that sound similar to Agreed Value, but they are actually very different. Beware! We would not suggest insuring a collector car with a Stated Value or Actual Cash Value policy. <o></o>
    <o></o>
While the names of the policies may sound similar, there is a huge difference between our Agreed Value policy and a Stated Value policy. Some people (including insurance agents) mistake Stated Value for Agreed Value— that’s a big mistake. Stated Amount forms say that the insurance company will pay the lesser of: a) The Stated Amount, b) the cost to repair the vehicle that doesn’t exceed the Stated Amount or c) the “Actual Cash Value.” And, with that third statement, a claims adjuster is allowed to settle your claim for LESS than the Stated Amount.
    <o></o>
Actual Cash Value refers to the cost to replace the vehicle with new property of like kind and quality, less depreciation— the “fair market value.” If you look up the “fair market value” for your collector car, you will understand why you do not want to insure your car with such a policy; you will receive close to nothing. If you buy a Stated Value or Actual Cash Value policy and experience a total loss or have your car stolen, you will learn the hard way that your car is not properly covered. Why take that risk?<o>

    </o>
Grundy Worldwide understands that collector vehicles do not depreciate in value, over time; we know that the values of these cars typically increase. Our Agreed Value policies account for the true values of collector vehicles.<o>

    </o>
    What’s Covered<o></o>
<o></o>At Grundy Worldwide, we are confident that we will offer you the most coverage for your collector vehicle. Our policies include coverage for liability, comprehensive and collision, and loads of “bells and whistles” features that few others can offer you.

Liability coverage is the foundation of any auto insurance policy; and, you want to make sure that you have enough coverage. This coverage protects you from accident-related lawsuits and the burdens of repair and replacement costs. If you are at fault in an accident, your liability coverage will pay for the bodily injury and property damage expenses caused to others; property damage coverage pays for the repair or replacement of property (that is not yours) that you damage. Our policies include Medical Payments, P.I.P., No Fault and Uninsured Motorist Coverage, as required. Coverage and limits vary by state.

Our policies also cover physical damage to your vehicle— “comp and collision.” And, in most states, Grundy’s insurance also includes some essential add-ons that make our coverage tailored to the car collector like no other insurance policy. This extra coverage includes: towing and labor expenses up to $250 each occurrence; auto show medical reimbursement, $5,000 each person, up to $10,000; spare parts coverage, up to $500; trip interruption coverage, up to $600 reimbursement for transportation expenses, lodging and/or meals in the event of a collision or mechanical or electrical breakdown; and, inflation guard, with an annual increase of 4 percent each year.

    Superior Claims Service
When an owner of a collector car is protected by a good insurance company, with good claims settlement, the hobbyist is provided with peace of mind. Grundy Worldwide maintains the highest claims settlement ratings of all companies.

Be sure to look into AM Best ratings. Grundy Worldwide only works with companies that carry the highest claims ratings in the industry. We provide insurance to car collectors in all 50 states; and, in most states, Grundy's Collector Vehicle Program is underwritten by A+ rated Philadelphia Insurance Company. In <st1:state w:st="on">Massachusetts</st1:state>, <st1:state w:st="on"><st1>South Carolina</st1> </st1:state>and other special circumstances, Grundy uses United States Liabilities Insurance. U.S.L.I. benefits from an A++ rating and reputation. Trained representatives work hard to achieve a settlement that is swift, equitable and trouble-free.

It is also important to point out that, a few years ago, Grundy launched a nationwide-search for adjusters who are “car guys.” As a result we are certain that when we send a claims adjuster to assess damage on a collector vehicle, they really know what they are talking about! Imagine having an adjuster assess the damage on your car after looking puzzled upon their first glance at the unique vehicle! We are sure you would feel a bit unsettled. At Grundy, our adjusters are familiar with collector cars; many of them are hobbyists, themselves. We are confident that our customers will be confident in our adjusters. We are car people just like you!

    Company Reputation<o></o>
This brings us to company reputation. Grundy is known to be the leader in collector car insurance, having started insuring such vehicles, in 1947. As the inventors of Agreed Value insurance, we have been in business longer than any other collector vehicle insurance company. The Grundy name, employees and insurance product are known, respected and recommended by members of the collector car hobby. In fact, a great percentage of Grundy clients learn about us through word-of-mouth referrals from their car buddies who currently insure their collector vehicles with us.<o>:p></o>:p>

    Customer Service<o></o>
When searching for the right company to insure your collector car, you want to make sure you are comfortable with the company’s customer service and their knowledge of collector cars.

We are proud that when you call Grundy, you can talk to a real person! And, “our people” are hobbyists, just like you. Jim Grundy, the company’s President and CEO is a collector; his father and grandfather were collectors, as well. A love for old cars runs in the family blood… and the company blood, too. Chuck Wasoski, VP Collector Vehicle Program, is a life-long car enthusiast and hobbyist who has been in the collector vehicle insurance industry for over 17 years; for the last 11 years, he has worked at Grundy Worldwide, where we have insured collector cars longer than any other insurance agency. Our knowledge of the industry is exceptional; our representatives understand you, your car and your insurance needs.

    Usage, Storage and Mileage Restrictions<o></o>
<o></o>Make sure that you ask about any usage, storage and mileage restrictions. Most collector car insurance companies, including Grundy Worldwide, will require that your vehicle be stored in a fully-enclosed and locked garage and be used for “pleasure and hobby use.” Pleasure use is driving your vehicle at your leisure, like going out to a nice dinner with your spouse, or taking a cruise in the country. And, hobby use includes shows, parades and different events. We ask that you not use your collector vehicles as your main means of transportation, but Grundy wants you to enjoy your vehicle. Some companies have annual mileage restrictions; however we offer Unlimited Mileage on all of our insurance policies. You can drive your car as far and as often as you’d like, as long as it is not used for daily transportation. We encourage our drivers to get on the road and remain active in the hobby.<o>

    </o>
    Price<o></o>
<o></o>We cannot forget to mention insurance rates. We would not advise you to shop for insurance by price only; if you shop that way, you may find inexpensive policies that do not offer enough coverage. At Grundy, we offer peace of mind with policies that include the proper coverage at a price that is easy on your wallet. Our rates are so low, because we specialize in insuring collector vehicles, which we understand are used on a limited basis. These cars are not used for every-day transportation, but rather for pleasure and hobby use, club events, parades and car shows. They are garaged and well-maintained. Grundy Worldwide understands that car collectors take extra special care of their extra special vehicles. Our customers are safe drivers, and we believe they deserve the best rates. As a result, we have found that often our policy premiums are up to 70% less than those offered by standard insurance companies.

Good info. I didn't even realize there was a difference in stated and agreed value.
...guess just because I stated it, didn't mean we agreed to it.

I've had Grundy for quite a few years. I've filed 2 claims with them; one for some simple broken glass, and another for a paint job. Both were handled fast and with no hassle. I'm very happy with their service.

I went with Hagerty for mine because after talking to Grundy it sounded like if I wasn't going to or coming back from a show, or parade I wouldn't be covered. I asked the lady so if I just take it out on a nice day to get some ice cream with the kids and I get hit, I'm not covered? She said nope you are NOT covered. Is that true "beckyatgrundy"?

Sometimes I like to drive mine to work on a nice day or just take the wife and kids for a drive. I put < 1,000/year on it. Hagerty sent me a sheet and I filled out how many miles they thought I'd put on it going to events and how many miles just driving around for fun. I drive mine around for fun more than taking it to shows.

This was 5 years ago and I haven't looked at it since nor have I had a claim.

Hi there -- You can take your collector vehicle out for pleasure and hobby use. Ice cream with the kids IS covered. Below is part of a story I wrote that describes what is actually covered. I had interviewed Chuck Wasoski, our VP Collector Car Insurance Program. He is quoted.

    <link rel="File-List" href="file:///C:%5CDOCUME%7E1%5Cbecky%5CLOCALS%7E1%5CTemp%5Cmsohtml1%5C01%5Cclip_filelist.xml"><o:smarttagtype namespaceuri="urn:schemas-microsoft-com<img src=" images="" smilies="" redface.gif="" border="0" alt="" title="Embarrassment" smilieid="2" class="inlineimg"></o:smarttagtype> Well, what if I’m from <st1:state w:st="on">New York</st1:state> and I want to drive my car to a show in <st1:state w:st="on"><st1>California,</st1></st1:state> Am I covered the whole way?

“You are covered the whole way!” explains Chuck. “We offer all of our Agreed Value policies with ‘Unlimited Mileage.’ You can drive your car as far and as often as you’d like, as long as it is not used for daily transportation. Our policyholders are advised that their cars must be used for pleasure and hobby use—and, we encourage our drivers to get on the road and remain active in the hobby. Grundy customers are offered unlimited pleasure through our unlimited mileage feature.”<o>

</o> Do I need to stay with my car at collector car events? Do you have an attendance clause?<o></o>
    <o></o>
“No,” says Chuck. “Our policy doesn’t have an attendance clause. We feel as though our customers should be able to enjoy the hobby and the event they attend. How can they do that if they’re standing with their car the whole time?”<o>

</o> How about this-- Is my car covered in a repair shop?<o>

    </o>
“Yes,” says Chuck. “It’s fully covered. The whole time.”<o>

</o> Is it covered if I take my wife out for a bite to eat?<o>

    </o>
“Yes. Occasional pleasure drives, which would include a bite to eat, are covered with a Grundy policy,” says Chuck. “That is, as long as the vehicle is not used as your daily transportation.”<o>

</o> You say my car is covered for “pleasure and hobby use.”-- What does this mean?

“Well, pleasure use is driving your vehicle at your leisure. Going out to a nice dinner with your spouse, or taking a cruise in the country,” explains Chuck. “And, hobby use includes shows, parades and different events. We ask that you not use collector vehicles as your main means of transportation, but Grundy wants you to enjoy your vehicle. We want you to participate in this hobby that our company has been helping to preserve for 62 years.”<o></o>
