Russ Meeks is now able to offer 3 Inch dropped uprights and 3 inch dropped steering arms for your 49-54 chevy. They are made out of factory forged uprights and are Tig welded on a jig to insure proper fit and geometry. After the uprights and steering arms are welded they are ground down and then stress relieved. The steering arms help to eliminate bump steer thats very common in these cars when they are lowered a lot. Russ has been building dropped spindles since the 50s. This is definitely the way to go if you want want it done correctly. It takes 4 uprights and 4 steering arms to build a set of each. To have a set made it costs $500. There is a $100 core charge. All sets are made to order. You can contact russ at (503) 659 4278

A couple things i forgot to write. we are going to make dropped spindles for other cars and trucks in the future. so keep your eye out. we can also install your spindles/ uprights also lower the back and c-notch it and then have your car aligned so you dont have to. Russ is located in Portland Or. He told me that he has never kept track of how many spindles he built over the years but he probably built a 1000 of them. He has never had a set break.

Very nice work. I take a set for my 59 when you build your next Jig.

yes it they are included in the price. russ likes to build the uprights and the steering arms together because he says without the steering arms you get a lot of bumpsteer.

A 3" drop is exactly what I'm after on my '50, and the RM Engineering uprights & arms look pretty nice. BUT, looking at the pictures, I can't see how you'd get a stock spindle back on the dropped uprights. The spindle mount is super close to the upper knuckle...doesn't look like there's nearly enough room. ???

Man this is what kills me evertime I have an arguement in my head about keeping my stock suspension vs MII. $500 is a lot of money. not that time is'nt worth that much but by the time I buy the discs and the uprights and the rebuild I am at MII money. and then I still have the stock steering. Hhhhmmmmmmm????

For needing 2 pairs each I think 500$ is a little high.

These look great. I'd love a set. The only problem I have is that in Australia we aren't permitted to have welded components on the IFS. Is there any chance you would ever consider making a solid forged set? You would have my money for a set of those in a heartbeat - and all the other Aussies when they hear about it ;)
