First, let me qualify the question. 1. Sold my 31' 5-window project. 2. bought my sons 38' Chevy Coupe (he decided he wanted something else and bought an original 63 Nova SS. 3. Sold my 38 Chevy Coupe w/Speedway straight axle kit (which I had bought my son for his birthday for the 38'. 4. Now looking for a project. My favorite car is a 55'. Looking to do a gasser project. 1. A 56' 210 post for sale with 327, Super T-10, good body, floors, seats, etc. for $6000. I like 56's, but not as much as the 55'. 2. A 55' 210 post for sale without motor/tranny with tilt front, new floors, ball joint lift for $7500. Really want a 55' but the extra dosh would help and the 56' is more complete. Helpppp! I know I probably won't stop buying and selling cars until I get the one I really want, but money is somewhat of a factor...especially when it comes to cars and my wife.
Get what you want. If you want a 55 more than a 56, by all means buy a 55 BUT! Don't necessarily buy the 1st 55 you find. Search the best deal out.
I'd jump on that '56. I love 'em, and if the bodies are in comparable condition it sounds like a better deal.
I would grab the '56 if the body condition is the same, I really like '55's but the '56 sounds like the better deal... compare the body quality...
I love '55s but that '56 sounds like a better deal to me too. Check the underbody of the '56 and if it's clean and rust-free you should seriously consider buying it. Hell, the 327 and T-10 would make for a great and fun driver with the right rear gears. I'd love to have a '56 post sedan. And since you buy-sell you can always sell it later and move "up" to a '55.
if you love a 55 hold out for one dont waste time on a car just cause its available 2nd best will never do
the 57 sounds like a better deal... seriously..why don't you buy what you want...asking a bunch of misfits like us will only confuse you, as nobody here agrees on a lot.
I have never cared for the 56 body style. 20 years ago, I would have said that to me, the 55 was the race car, the 57 was the custom show boat and the 56 was the oddity. That being said, today, I would probably jump on the 56, just because they are different and you don't see near as many. I sort of like the unique features of them now. Take a look at my gasser files in the link below. You will find several stunning 56 gassers that might help you make a decision.
Go with the 55. I paid just about the same price for my roller a couple of years ago. Here's a picture the day it arrived.
Get the 55. you'll always regret not getting what you wanted in the first place. Hot rodding is no place for practicality.
What car is is closer to the goal you want what one has a better body you dont have to sink alot of money so you can spend money on the other parts you want?
Unless either is your Dream save your money .The market is soft and most people aren't driving hot rods right now.You have several swap meets coming up in the next 90 days there will be deals . Hold off till you get what you want.
That seems to be true. It looks like split about 50/50 or close to it. I'll go look at the 56' first since it's closer, then go look at the 55' and compare. I've looked at a lot of gasser photo's and the 56's look pretty good. Decent 55's don't seem to come up around here to often and like all sought after cars, the good ones go fast.
I've had a both and the '56 is my favorite. But I think if I were going to build a gasser I'd use a '55.
I set out to buy a 55 but ended up buying a 57. I still have a yearning to be the owner of a bitchin black 55......
Personally I think gasser 55s are done to death. Since the '56 is a better looking car anyway, and in this case is more complete AND less money, this one isn't even a question to me. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=421009
