There was a mention of "Milk Truck Wheels" on a roadster in another post, this is the second time I've read this discription in the last few weeks. What are they? Could someone post a photo? Has to be a new term for an old wheel, when was the last time anyone saw a milk truck?
if you have hop-up issue 5 (the NEW hop-up) on page 91 is a picture bottom right corner on the 27 "track" T #4 i want some too for my tank! zach
[ QUOTE ] The little extremely chopped and channled coupe that caused all the ruckus on here had some on it... [/ QUOTE ] No... If I remember right, those were International Truck wheels.
Take a look at www.classicroad.com., Rolf's website. There is a picture of Bruce Donelan's '28 AV8, the grey one. He has Divco wheels on it. They were actually accessary high ground clearance Ford wheels and were also used on Divco milk trucks prewar. Everyone I know has two out in the yard welded to a steel post to hang the garden hose.
When you get to www.classicroad.com scroll down to the Swindler's rod run. The link with the nice '46 Ford picture. Bruce's roadster is the 9th picture down in that set.
Several months ago this particular car was an internet fist fight (read Brawl) between GERM and its builder. It was a fantastic rockabilly/punk rumble. Polish your wallet chains men!Is it safe? YIKES!!!!!
Hey! that reminds me i have a freind who is looking for some 30's divco wheels, somewhere i have the dimensions 6 lug x 20" wheel, GMC used similar wheel but with a small center hole. They got too pour you in that car! don't look like my milk truck '30 Thorne Gas-Electric take care! tt caution when veiwing pics that are sideways!
Here is a pic of my wheels on the front of my Tank project. It took me 3 years to find them. They are probably one of the most difficult hot rod item to get ahold of. Even the old time lakes racers that I talk to said they were hard to find even back in the 50's. [image]http://im1.shutterfly.com/procserv/47b4cf09b3127cce9d3bf745d86f00000000108BcuWjdmzbm[/image]
Thanks for posting the photos! Do they share the same bolt pattern as '28 -'48 Ford? The tank chassis looks very nice, future racer?
[ QUOTE ] Some milk truck wheels in fordbarn classified [/ QUOTE ] the ones on fordbarn sold; $1500 a pair!
The reality is they probably never were on a Divco. They were Kelsey-Hayes post-war accessory Ford high-clearance wheels, for use on tow-trucks, delivery trucks, mail-trucks, or MILK-trucks. Lakes racers used them for a short period in the early '50s when they could get used 18" Indy cast-off tires for cheap instead of their non-speed-rated street tires, the only snag was finding an 18" wheel to put em on. These were heavy, and after a couple years Ted Halibrand started making his magnesium wheels so the milk-truck wheels were discarded. Issue #4 of Hop-Up has many pictures of the 18" if you look closely. In one of the Don Montgomery books I counted 25 pictures with the wheels. $1500/pair is a bargain! I sold my pair to Bob. He'll tell you and I'll tell you, it takes years to find em!
this site never ceases to amaze me with the information that get posted! now, does anyone have any info. on the 20 inch accessory wheels that were available for the early half tons? thanks chris
This bitchen steel deuce runs a pair with standard 40 caps. Dude lives near me, cant remember his name.
I've always heard those referred to as "Artillery Wheels" I suspect,(but dont know this) that you might find some by poking around the back lot of some military collectors.
Chris, Are you talking about the 20" red wheels that were on that super low coupe that everybody was calling milktruck wheels? If so, I do know some info on them.
the wheels i was seeking info. on are the solid disc type.i think they were called safari wheels. they look similar to 1940 ford wheels and take a regular car or half ton small snap in hubcaps.and i was wondering if the early lakes racers(or bonniville) used 20 inch wheels. thanks
