Hey Boys i have a 32 3 window coupe with a baby hemi and 39 box with a 40 rear end . So if i was racing this car back in the day what class would it fall into ? like b/g or c/m or what? i know someone out there will know . Thanks BOB ACEScc
Upper Gas class would be my guess. It would depend on safety equipment, weight, engine displacement. Back then you either built a car for a specific class with intentions of dominating it or just showing up at the strip and wanting to run for the fun. Frank
As it sits right now, it probably would have had to run Altered class. Not so much of engine set-back, but because of a lack of steet equipment like headlights and some sort of exhaust system. If it had the street equipment on it, it could run in Gas class. You would have to weigh the car and divide the weight by the cubic inches of the motor to see which one of the Gas classes you'd be in.
B/A is a possible late 50's class with a similar configuration. Tough with the Hemi and carbs because many ran injected on fuel in the early 60's with similar cars.
I agree with Andamo, without the fenders I think it would be in Altered class, maybe a C/A or D/A. I agree with the c.i. to weight ratio too. Great lookin deuce.
Looks like C/A or B/A due to the lack of fenders. In order to run Gas class, it had to be street legal, including frnders. At least that's the way they did it at Lions.
Besides the lack of fenders, looks like the chop eliminates it from Gas class (4" total chop/channel).....probably Altered & facing some stiff competition. Terry
Like everyone else is saying, your car would have run in an Altered class for sure. I can't find any of my rulebooks from the '60s but I remember cars running 283s were usually in D/Altered and I'm betting that your car would have either been barely in C/A or at the top of D/A. If I'm correct you probably would have added some weight to make the D/A class. No matter what class you ran in your car would've been as cool then as it is now. Please post some more pics when you've got it on the street.
Let me worry about what class it would've/could run in right after you sell it to me! That is a hot '32, and I'm generally not very fond of 3 windows. Steven.
Looks like an Altered to me. Altered rules- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=377772 And if you wanna see why it's not a Gasser. Gasser rules- http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=334715 Larry T
Well thank you for all the inf and the car is going to be done in two week for the GNRS so i will put up some more pics thanks
ACE...it would have been in ALTERED class. the C.I. would determan the class. but i would say B/A or C/A. and yes the chopped top and open wheels would put it in altered class. it's 1 beautiful old coupe that's for sure and certain. thanks for sharing, man i love that old hot rod...POP.
