Art & Inspiration I put a Christmas tree in the front yard and the city dosen't like it!

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Don Moyer, Dec 24, 2009.

  1. The last couple years I have been putting a model a pick up out in the front yard with a tree in it...well, this year I put this old funny car body to use! The frame is 2 x 3 lumber and the roll cage is oak hand railing, all painted with rustoleum...a penguin is driving of coarse! Then made a quick "tree" for the display..after much discussion with the city, they said I could keep it there this year, but not again! Merry Christmas everyone!

  6. That's funny. I'm so hyper sesitive to the ACLU and all those grinches
out there that I bought the thread theme hook, line and sinker!
So the PC police have a heart this year? That's good, you'll have to
be even more creative next year..

    Nice yard decor, Merry Christmas!

so.....how can it be legal this year, but not next year...?

It must fall under some code of not parking a vehicle on the lawn. Some cities require tha all vehicles be in the driveway or garage.
I could make a pretty good argument that that isn't a car or vehicle...it's a body...

Screw the town 'authorities'. Do what you want, as long as no laws are being broken.

My townies called me yesterday saying I had to remove some snow fencing I put up to protect my front yard plantings from road salt. I asked them why. They said "a neighbor complained" about the look of the fence. (It's store-bought silt fence). I asked if I was violating any ordinance, they said no. I promptly told them to stop bothering me then, the fence is staying.

So unless you're in violation of some ordinance, do whatever you want.

  11. yes, code violation for parking a vehicle on an un approved parking surface. Also, code violation for vehicle without registration...so I said, please read me the legal definition for vehicle...hehe, got them there cause my "funny car" did not meet any of the criteria. So later they came back with we could call it used car parts, but let it slide because I explained the theme...I wasn't looking to make waves and this is one of those stories where the government was not that bad to deal with...

Go back to a Model A theme next year, but made out of plywood. Same deal, it is not a vehicle... it is art. Freedom of speech and expression!
Merry Christmas to you, or can I not say that because of the PC Police!?

...maybe you should ask if a sled with Santa in it is considered a "vehicle", if not then next year put a stuffed Santa in the car with a Rudolph hooked to the front of the car and tell them it's a sled. Have Rudolphs nose timed with the foul light on the christmas tree.

Not to piss on your holiday spirit, but at first glance that does look like a car is parked in your front yard. Maybe some more lighting or "Happy Holidays" written on it would help. It's a cool idea, but with stuff like that, you have to make it REALLY obvious for the folks who may not get it.

looks pretty cool to me. our city ordinance says you can't park a car on soft surfaces, you have to have a license on a vehicle setting on your property, but you can have a trailer with the biggest piece of shit setting on it and, or a privacy fence with a yard full of shit, that's ok.
i don't know who makes the laws up for the most free nation on earth?.
