...here's a 428 in my 1956 mainline. I had a built 406 (3x2's) in it for years, but that motor proved to be too cantankerous for the street. The 428 4-speed with Lincoln Versailles rear end get 16 mpg at any speed you'd want to run on the highway.

  10. Here are some of my intakes. I've added a "few" since this photo. Got stiffed on a dual quad today however.

Drove 280 miles (one way) to deliver some parts to Wizard47, that part went great. Called to pick up the 2X4 and he said he'd sold it to someone else and "lost my cell #"

    Oh well movin/on

Okay, since this is an FE thread, maybe I can get some help here. Anyone have the accessory mounts(i.e. alternator mounts and spacer w/hardware,power steering mounts w/hardware), power steering pump, and pulleys(crank pulleys, water pump pulleys, alt. pulleys, and power steering pulleys) from a '66 or '67 390 FE? I'm looking for this stuff and,for the most part, have had no like finding anything. I need this stuff to get my motor to a point that I can fire it up.

I hate to be a stinker but those SBFs wich won LeMans were 289s not 302s. They were turning 11000 RPM down the straight. Lets see a SBC do that for 24 hours !!!!

    Ford won Le Mans in 1966 & 1967 with the FE. 1968 & 1969 were Mk1 small block 289 Windsor cars. :)

I am building a FE for my 66 Mustang S/FX project. I am using a 391 crank out of the big trucks and offset grinding it to BBC rod journal diameter for a 4 in. stroke. These cranks are steel and have a larger snout than stock. The block I am using is a 1961 hi-perf block aka factory tri-power. They have the provisions for cross bolt mains. The block will have the main caps added and turned into a real side-oiler, with oil lines running from the oil filter adapter to the center mains through hollow bolts. I am filling the block and boring it .075 over to end up with 427 cubic inches. I am narrowing a set of 6.535 BBC aluminum rods to fit the crank and having custom pistons made. Up top will be a set of aluminum Edelbrock heads topped by a 6-71 BDS blower with a 2 port Hilborn injector on Alky. I have the M/T front cover to run my injector pump and early M/T valve covers for it. Also will run a vertex mag that I have for it. Still need to send it out to have an offset drive added to clear the blower. It will run a custom ground roller cam to make the valves pop. It should make 850 horse on an easy tune up and 950-1000 if I really wanted to lean on it. I found most of the neat M/T parts on Ebay and some of the others here and there. A funny thing about the M/T front cover is it has the big opening for the larger 391 crank snout. M/T ran the fe engine clear through 1970 in Top Fuel and Fuel Funny cars. I am guessing he used the steel truck cranks and had them welded up for strokers, probably made 480+ c.i. out of the 427 and had the larger snout for strength with the blower. That is my reasoning for using one. When I get closer to getting it done and have it mocked up I will post some pictures.

The same car won LeMans 1968 & 1969 Chassis No 1075 it was powered by a 302 with Gurney Weslake Heads (source GT40 An Individual History & Race Record by Ronnie Spain) its the definitive book on every GT40 built in the 60s.
