no straight axle here. aluminum horeshoe spacers under the springs and ball joint spacers. I had 62 chevy 409 station wagon with AC springs on the front but it pinned the bottoms of the upper a-arms onto the frame - super dangerous. Took them off right away (wasn't easy putting them in).

I like the height right now. With 30" tall tires in the back... it sits level with the 27" tires on the front.

It wasn't a gasser, it was daily driver street car,
but it definitely had a 60's Gasser/Mod Prod stance.
Back about 1974 or '75, a buddy of mine had a
    plain-jane '66 Beaumont 2-dr sedan with a stock
230 inline 6. The front springs were shot so he
replaced them with a pair of he had lying around
from a '67 396 Chevelle The big block front springs
combined with the little inline 6 caused the front end
to go sky high. To fix that, he leveled the car out
by putting a pair of J78-15 tires on 15X8
Corvette rally wheels on the back and a pair of
D70-14 tires on matching 14X6 iChevy II
rally wheels on the front. With the new springs
combined with big & little rubber, the rocker
panels were now more or less level, but about
8 inches higher than stock. And in the front
there was a good 12 inches of clearance from
the top of the front tires to the lip on the wheel
opening. The car was still a total dog with the
stock 230 inch 6 banger, but it looked scary
    fast! anyway!!

yep, Chris55 is correct - those spacers are what I am using. I've used them for the past 3 years with no problems. I also use balljoint spacers that there is a picture posted of earlier in this thread... but they aren't necessary. I run stock springs... heavy duty ones were a no-go situation. The car has a nice ride height and it drives well too.

Here's the car I built back in '70 (?) Ball joint spacers, station wagon springs and a Olds rear end. I sold it to the guys on the door. Here it is at Capitol Raceway in MD pulling the left front.

Bob's is a restraunt that has a weekly cruz on fridays. The V6 swap must be the in thing for you guys, its nice how they fit. If i see the car again i'll let the person know. In keeping with the thread nice 55 from the days.

Here is my "tribute" car. I used a '76-'77 Monte Carlo chassis under it, due to my chassis being completely junk. I liked it at first, but I really dislike seeing the frame. I am unsure if I should put it back on an original chassis with springs and spacers, or go straight axle. O well, it gets me around.

I love it! my impala is begging for some air under the front!

i like the spring over in the back. where its still nose up, but has like 3 or 4 inches of daylight over the rear tire and an uncut fender.

like lifted all the way around.

on a side note, i found a donor front axle for my O/T 69 C10 Ga**er. its out of a 91 2wd jeep cherokee. they just used an empty tube with no drive housing like the old dispacher jeeps. ball joints, disk brakes and its only 100 bucks! what do ya think?

Ive got ball joint spacers and bigger coils.
The ball joint spacers go in the top A frame to allow the bottom A frame and spindle to go down further and not let the top A frame bottom out on the top of the frame.
I wanted 15s but ran across some 14s, They do help exagerate the distance between the wheel and the fender lip more.
I need a 225 70 14 on the front instead of these lower profile tires on it now to raise it a little higher.

oh, and yes that green 55 has the stepped spindles that uses 2 pair cut and welded together (I checked it out at Bowling green Goodguys)

Also, I knew of a white 66 Impala for sale back in the late 80s that was sittin high front and back with ladder bars, new wide cragars and 50s in the back and skinnies in the front, It looked super clean and wicked.;)
