CHEVY...man 600 weight sounds nuts to me, but then again i'am not an A model mechanic! honestly i believe it's the same oil as for any steering gear...POP.

600 grade was heavy weight oil, the 600 being derived from military(MIL-spec), that was approximately 2X the actual SAE grade as we know it today, so the 600 grade would be approximately 300W. Another example was, MIL1100 grade was 50W, MIL1065 was 30W, etc. I had some 600 grade and used it up. It was so heavy that in zero degree weather you could hardly move the gearshift untill you got it limbered up.

They don't make it any more. I haven't seen any for sale in about thirty years or so.

Brattons sells what they call an equivelent, but it's only sae140 with addatives.

Back in the early '70's I used 90 or 100 weight
gear lube, mixed 50-50 with STP in a buddy's
Model A steering box and it worked ok.

You can 600W from any Model A or early Ford parts guy... it's used in A transmissions also in pre-53 non-syncro 4 speeds.

I also have several quarts for sale if you need any... I bought a case from my local Mobil oil distributor. It's also sold by several guys on Ebay.
