what's the whole story? what happened to the guy who pushed the door lock button?

in the welding supply store by my place they had a poster of a car that blew up with a bottle in the trunk and the brake lights lit it up. just like the van only the guy was in the car.

same thing but different. the hoses were stored in a gangbox on a construction site and still had acetylene in them so the box was full of gas the next morning. my buddy opened the box and luckily didn't have a lit cigarette in his mouth or it would have made for a very interesting morning.

Thank God for remote central locking. My dad has been a Plumber for 40 years and this is why he has never had a van for work only utes.

When finished with using the torch, close the main valves on the tanks. Open the torch valves and drain the regulators down to zero. Back off the regulators. Close the torch valves.

  22. I was thinkin' the same thing. On the one overhead shot, is that a blue for sale sign on the right side neighbors house?

But on the original topic. Gas mishandled sure is dangerous. Thanks for posting it.

  23. I figured that was Oz or Kiwiland, because of the RHD van and the home styles. That was one hell of a KABOOM!

Acelylene in a liquid form is every unstable. It can only be transported as a gas.

In the gas form the Lower explosive limit 2.5% and the upper explosive limit is 100% it also has a lower flammable limit of 2.5% and a upper flammable limit of 82% . It have one of the the widest explosive/flammable range of all of the gases out there. When it explode it can expands at a rite of 1415 meter per second.

  25. So...THAT'S what they mean by "exploded view"....

    Cosmo

Oh, and I'm unstable at just about any pressure :)

I always heard that Acetylene is more stable as a liquid. Thats why the inside of the bottles is full of sponge like material, to keep it in liquid form. Also, dont they suspend acetylene in acetone?

    Yes they do.

The liquid Acetone is what keeps the gas stable.

Thats why you never go over 15 psi on out let presure - that is the point were the liquid acetone starts to leave the tank.

Yep, nobody was hurt. This was one of ours (Country Fire Authority) in Victoria, Australia. It happened in the south eastern suburbs of Melbourne. The apprentice hit the remote to get in the van to start the day.

Someone mentioned a 'For Sale' sign and the fact that the place is a shit hole. Chances are the explosion is only partly to blame for that. I used to work in that area. Generally looks much like that most of the time.

I'm going to work tonight. I'll see if I can dig up a link with more info and I'll post it.
