Well, having the body off the frame, i decided i was gonna touch up the paint a little bit, seeing as how it had been gettin scratched, and was 3 different colors. I was only gonna sand a little bit, then primer, no real filling work. then i got sanding more, and shot some primer. then more, 7 days later, its damn near ready to shoot! It'll be one of the nicest paintjobs iv attempted yet. A darker gloss version of the old color, with 2 black racing stripes down the center, pinstirpped in ivory 1 shot, with 28 on the door in ivory . So....much.....sanding.....
So....much.....sanding.....
Tell me about it i've been wet sanding on a customers car for a week straight 8 hours a day
Tell me about it i've been wet sanding on a customers car for a week straight 8 hours a day
oh man.
And guess what, when you think you're done, give it a dark guide coat and another round of sanding......then step back and cry...... I don't know how guys get a car perfect, I just don't have the amount of patience it takes.......
Thats a neat looking car, take your time and make it right.... Just keep reminding yourself that anyone can half-ass it, but you can make it nice.
This just reinforces the fact that I will never be a bodyman...I'll gladly pay to have all of this crap done...maybe I'm just lazy, but I think it's more about the lack of patience and the amount of time that goes into it...I'd want to spend 20 minutes sanding and shoot it with color and call it done, even though I want better quality than that, I just want to get it over with...
If you're not bucks up you do your own work the best you can and be happy with it. Better to have a slightly flawed amateur paint job that you did on your own time for "free" than a slightly flawed pro job that you paid for with earned money.
Well, set the body back down on the frame so i can roll it outside to wetsand. Oh, and did i mention MORE SANDING? Only this time, i get to spot putty it as well. WHOO The last is a slightly brighter version of the final color. Its going to be much darker, but i ran out of space in the can for black paint! ALMOST THERE!!!!
You dudes that do bodywork have the patientce of saints. I'd rather port heads and file ring gaps. Bodywork, GOOD bodywork, is an art form. Neat car!
Dynaflash_8.......I just looked at your build thread, and I am amazed at what you started with. You have done a lot of work, and done a great job bringing that old Nash back to life. Good Job. Be proud of yourself.
I need to get out there and do some dolly work on that thing cause I know you wont haha. Start my build thread too im lazy haha
Good job, keep it up. I feel your pain, been sanding for months now on my 32. Over three gallons of primer so far.
awesome!! did you tackle that dent on the passenger side of the roof at all? cant wait to see the finished product! man marty i cant believe how far this has come.
Well, its still there, but its much smoother now. I did some investigating, and found out that the entire passenger side of the car is caved in bout half an inch to an inch. It goes from the back window to the A pillar. I dont trust myself using a porta power enough, so it stayed like that. Maybe somday, but im content with it
