Im planning to go to speed week 2010. whats the best hotel for night time car scene or anything to do after the races close for the day?
anything you can get, you better take it; as rooms for Speedweek are at a premium and they're gone before you know it...
The entire town of Wendover is (that's both Utah and Nevada) is only 14 square miles, so pretty much anywhere you are is good.
The Nugget is number one, hands down. Bend in the Road, a very close second. LOTS of Speed Week info here on the HAMB from past years.
Any body know the difference between speedweek and the world finals week? For a spectator I mean, what's better etc? Thanks
The bend in the road is a blast! This last year was my second at Bonneville and my first at the bend and I am definitely staying there again next year.
just throught i would throw this out there, some friends and i have been thinking about a trip out to the flats, found out some other friends went out and rented a motor home and got busted by the rv place for taking the rental out on the salt. they power washed the unit afterwards but the rv place checked it over good and found salt , and it cost them over a grand in penalties. ouch!
Rooms at Speed Week are always scarce. The hotels/casinos don't start taking booking for Speed Week until early Jan. Wendover is a tiny place with a limited number of rooms. Speed Week 2010 is Aug. 14-20 and World Finals is Oct. 6-9. Rooms are more readily available for World Finals as it is a smaller meet. I always stay at Bend in the Road. Its free and has a great atmosphere. It is also primitive as in there are no facilities bar a couple of porta potties. There is the gas station/restaurant just at the off ramp. Food, gas, and showers there. Me and the sidecar will be there for Speed Week. [/IMG]
I'd check out the Red Garter. Probably one of the cheaper places in town and surprisingly they have an awesome restaurant that we went to almost every night. They have a $2.99 ham and egg breakfast special!
i live about 10 miles from london airport in england,so if i fly to salt lake city and hire a car, drive to bonneville(about 80 miles)it means im only 90 miles away, simples!!! get on a plane mate and go see the best motoring event on the planet
well while i was out riding bike for 2week ride i knew they where running, so i left my friendsat about 7am, got there about 12am was long ride but worth it,just rode in and got room in little motel, can't remember the name, got some rest and went to bon for the day,it was alsome,as i've said many times if you intoo speed ,you in haven but if your not your in hell, what a thrill to have been there hope to do it again one day but if i make it again it'll be for more than one day,was one of my dreams come true,THE NEED FOR SPEED
i have only been off season while working in salt lake city. it's just a quick blast west on 80 and your there.
