    Man,
I know I'm not the only guy who has seen the trends go more into the early 70's so why the hell is the Mooneyes cut off at 1965 for the Xmas party? It really cut's down on so many years that are truly relevant to the scene. It should seriously have a cut off of 1974 or so. Low riders, funny cars, vans, muscle cars, gassers and street freaks all get hurt by the cut off and I know for a fact we'd all like to see more of that stuff. I was planning on showing the van this year with the Dice guys and our new club but I guess that won't be happening. I could have sworn I saw late 60's and early 70's cars at that show the last few years.

    LAME!!!!!

They have to cut it off some where!!!! if they move it to 74 then the guy with the 75 Van will say hey my Van looks the same, and the guy with the 75 Vega will say hey my buddy with a 76 Pinto should get in then!!!! I like the cut off date!!!! its a Hot Rod and Custom thing!!!! and always should be!

So, I guess you were wanting to take your van??
Cut off dates are pretty arbitrary, but I won't argue with 48 or 64.

Except it wasn't that way last year, and there goes quite a few of the 1/8th milers this year, especially the guys on bikes. Looks like I won't be going anyways. All these cutoff dates and super strict rules take the fun out of car shows nowadays.

I think 65 is a good cut off date. I have gone to quite a few shows where the cut off is later say 72 and then the Hot Rods and Customs were completely outnumbered by muscle cars, to the point that some hot rods and customs were turned away due to lack of parking. Just my .02

Usually the cut off doesn't apply to bikes if the are built as choppers or bobbers. If the cars are racing the 1/8th and they are built to represent say the late sixties era, If they arranged it in advance I wonder if they would be allowed to race?

I'd cut it off at 59.

The problem with a '74 cut off is... well... frankly a lot of cars were shit by that time. So if you did up it to '74, you'd have to have some style police say yes to a '72 mayflower caddy with traditional paint job, and NO to the guys that are rolling up in a '74 F250.

They set it at '65 to eliminate the drama and get rid of all the "well you let him in the gates" bullshit.

Oh, and I don't want to see 500 Prostreet Mustangs and Camaros...

Ooooh, I know!! You could actually build something cool that would be under the cutoff date and then sand wouldn't get in yer crack from the strict rules and whatnot!!

OOOR, you could start your own car show where the cutoff is between 66 and 74 and no one else allowed!!! I'll bet everyone would show up for that one!!!

    Problem solved...

  22. It IS possible to ride a pig, but Mooneyes doesn't have a class for pig riders.

    Your first rodeo?

    Because it's their party?
It's a rod & custom show, not a van, funny car & street freak show. Pretty obvious you havent been if you are asking.
    Vans? Are you kidding?

The cut off isn't hurting Mooneyes, they were turning away cars last year because they ran out of room.
Perhaps you could have a van & street freak show on your own.
There's 2 cars that shouldn't be in the same sentence!

One of the reasons I always attend Mooneyes is because of the cut-off.

    Actually, I'm leaving town tomorrow.

Bad enough that they made cutoff of the NSRA event in Bakersfield (and all, I think) open to 1980 cars and below. First year in 8yrs me and some buds have been going that we did not go. Though not as HAMB friendly, it still ruins the event. What might be badass to some, Rows and rows of crayola colored mustangs and camaros just really dont do much for me.

We should keep the sanctity of Mooneyes the way it is. I dont agree to change something when it is not broken. No disrespect intended here.

'65 is too late of a cut off. I like the '54 cut off that the Antique Nats has.
The Antique Nat's is the best event all year long.

If I want to see anything from the 70's, I'll go to the junk yard.

its their event, but there is a push for early 70s stuff these days. Variety is the spice of life ya know. Specialy as us of that age group get older. In fact, I was building my Vega 70s style and truely love panel paint and tunnel rams hangin out of the hood. But mixing the generes at an event might be wierd....okay it would be.
