I've seen some Ford 9n tractors with a flathead v8 swap which was pretty cool. I was at Carlisle one year and saw an old 40's or 50's Harley with a flathead Ford v8. Kinda like a retro Boss Hoss.

Marv is an excellent fabricator and great guy. It only takes him about a year to build one of these.

My favorites are the jet engined powered one and the Honda Valkyrie job. When he puts the four-trans in low / low / low / low it will move at the rate of only 9 inches an hour - BUT IT WILL MOVE THE QUEEN MARY!

The early Versatile 4WD tractors ran Dodge Polys from the factory.

The Funk Conversion is the one for the Flathead V8 on the 8n style tractors. There is a guy in IN making kits now to do it.

  12. Someone did a beautiful V-12 conversion on this Ford tractor I spotted at a local tractor and engine show a few months ago. There was an equally nice flathead V-8 job right next to it.

I Like the one with the Small Block Ford. 302 or 351? Also, the V12 is awesome!

  14. More pics of that V-12 8N please, ClayMart! Was the hood stretched and/or a Funk-style dash extension used? If not raised what'd he do with the gas tank and carb? Doesn't look like hood was raised. Haven't seen this on the YM-tractor or N-Series forums, am sure someone would like to see pics there too.

I'm not sure what model it was, but IH built a factory V8 tractor, either in the 60's or the 70's. Also my nephew has a Farmall W-9, with a 455 Olds in it. Don't have any pics, though.

Well, this one ain't pretty, but it's pretty cool. It belongs to a friend of mine (that's him in the background ) and was built by his father a long time ago. I keep telling him he should try to get it running again.

I've been to Mr. Baumann's place and had the pleasure of seeing and hearing all of the converted tractors in his collection. I was bidding on a V8 60 that was on Ebay and in the last few seconds I placed the winning bid. When I arrived to pick it up it was hanging off the end of a frontend loader that was on a mid 50's Ford tractor. After dropping the 60 in the back of my pickup I noticed that there was another tractor sitting in an unattached shop with the frontend torn off and the engine on a chainfall. Being interested in tractors (I've got 2 8N's and 2 Oliver 70's) I asked if he was overhauling the Ford.
I wasn't prepared for what happened next. He invited me in and proceeded to show me his collection of v8 conversions. The Ford and
Chevy ones were interesting and the Mopar powered one was unusual but all three looked like thay had come from the factory so equiped. They all started with the touch of the key. Then the ultimate of the collection. We went into his machine shop and there sat the turbine powered specimen with the conversion just about finished. He is a soft spoken man and if you were to meet him away from his home you would never guess what a mechanical master he his. His shop is as fully equipped as any machine shop with lathes, mills and fabrication tools.
I left there with a smile on my face and have his website in my favorites.

1468 and 1568 models were built in the early 70's. Had the 550 cu.in. V8 truck engine. Weren't as good as the inline six counterparts. Photo below is of an Ertl model. Massey Ferguson built V8 diesel powered tractors for many years. They were quite good.

An outfit in the early 50s, don't remember the name, created a kit that used WW2 Jeep frontends, and an attachment that brought power from the transmission to the frontend. That one with the V8 is pretty neat. There are some pictures of an 8N with a crawler attachment and V8 conversion.

The IHC V8 didn't work so well in tractors. Versatile also used gas-burning Ford V8s in their early 4wd tractors. Later ones used Cummins 555" V8 and the bigger ones used 903" Cummins V8s. Most used the 855" I-6, and the larger one used an 1150" I6. Now they all use the "metric" versions.

Massey Ferguson used 327 and 350 Chevy V8s in their 510 combines. My father had a 510 with the 327. It had factory twin pipes coming out of the engine cowling and running alongside the grain tank. That sure sounded neat in the shop when he would fire it up!:D I liked the sound of it when the governor would have to open up when hitting a really thick windrow. She would sure bark through those pipes!!
