OK, following along these thoughts, if money laundering is illegal, so is this. It is a outright stealing from one group. I have a better idea. Every polititian leaving the scene should be finned a million dollars for breathing air. Hey, its our air, and he doesn't deserve it! Anyone who is not outraged is not paying attention.

Perhaps, if you accept that carbon (which is the smallest portion of exhaust by a long shot) is a pollutant. Water vapor is the lions share of exhaust, and what they're figuring out can *actually* affect temperatures while carbon doesn't to any measurable degree. However, you can't call water vapor a "pollutant" as no one would actually accept that. Carbon is also easier to measure, thus easier to regulate and tax....and tax....and tax.

California morons in thier finest hour.
I lived there 3 times. NEVER again.
Nazi government and a population of mostly fools that think everyone shoud be COOL and drive an electric scooter.
    Ghallager said it right:
"Living in California is like living in a box of granola,
Them what ain't fruits and nuts is flakes."
Between the bubbleheaded blonds and the gay geeks, I don't unsderstand how ANYONE could live there.
This "agreement" is just one more example of why.
    As for defrauding the DMV...
My mom lived there untill 14 years ago when she married and moved to Norway. She sold me her motor home before she left.
    I registered it In Illinois.
THREE years later the idiots that run the DMV there SIEZED her account at Bank of America for back license plate fees on the motor home.
A letter and proof or re-registration in another state would NOT satisify those fools.
It took a $500 attorney and 3 certified and notorized doccuments to get her bank account released.
I pity all of you thatlive there.

    Good Luck!
    Glenn

Does anyone else get the idea that the NEW GOVERNMENT OWNED GM might not be be the bastion of performance it usrd to be?

Once again, the GOVERNMENT to the rescue, everyone knows that hot rods and other enthusist cars kill millions of Califorinians everyyear because of the bad air they make.

America is quickly becoming a mere shadow of it's past glory.

    Sad.

    You think?

Wait till they get their foot in the door. It won't be long until they get things moving and start looking at YOUR car as a new source of revenue.

Other sates will follow suit, if they see the money start to roll in. And as far as it not bothering the majority, well see what happens next year if they get away with it. That's how it usually starts, they pick a group that nobody really cares about, and then when that is law, they sneak up and bite you all in the a$$....................

If you have a vehicle that you know was titled illegally and choose not to say anything or do anything, how will they inforce this? Will they attend car shows and search out fiberglass cars? Will they ask people for titles and registration? Does CA have the man power to do that? One thing is for sure, cars that have original titles will definately increase in value and cars that dont will more than likey decrease in value.

  20. So, according to the SEMA statement that I read, the only thing CA is requireing SCV owners to do is to plead No Contest to a Felony(s), pay a big Fine, and put 2010 compliant smog equipment on their vehicles...provided in "Kit" form ($$$) by GM (Government Motors) for SBC engines only. See, that's not very complicated, is it...

    WOW...get a hold of yourselves!!

Cali isn't the first to have a law like this, many states already require kits and such to be titled as the year they were built...Utah included. The only different thing is making it retroactive towards the ones that were fraudulently registered in the past. BIG FUCKING WHOOP! Does that affect the majority of you guys in living there? I hope not, that would mean you are a dishonest gold chainer type...don't we already dislike that type here? Get logical folks, understand what you are talking about before you open your mouth.

  22. Kind of odd, after reading the entire thread, four of the five guys posting from California say its no problem and won't affect anything unless you were scamming. Everyone else from outside of the state is predicting everything from the end of Hot Rodding to the demise of the entire country! I guess I'll have to believe the guys that actually live and drive their cars there.

I'm a bit confused about some things here. Maybe somebody could clarify for me.

Which vehicles does this actually affect?

What's also funny is that alot of southern states didn't even title cars and trucks till in the 70's and maybe early eighties. Go figure that one out....:D

Hope this is the "change" everyone voted for...
The government is far too big and powerful. We are losing more civil liberties everyday. All to fatten up our elected leaders wallets.

"If you have knowingly made any false statement or knowingly concealed any material fact in any document filed with the Department of Motor Vehicles or the California Highway Patrol, you will need to apply for amnesty."

Well I guess this pretty much covers probably 80% of the people who have ever bought a used car from a private party, whether it be a SCV or not, meaning making the bill of sale out for less than what was actually paid. The next step will be to make it mandatory that any used vehicle purchase go through a licensed dealer much like the process of buying a gun, maybe even having a 10 day waiting period so the actually value of the vehicle could be determined by an appraiser.

What the fuck is wrong with you people!? Please READ the original post (and look here as the leading article and this issue has already been hashed around http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=414815).

As I read it, the new rules only apply to cars <b>"registered under erroneous or illegal circumstances"</b>. So, if you built a brand new car, like a plastic 1932 or Cobra and registered it as a 1932 or 1965 (which has <b>always</b> been illegal and has <b>always</b> constituted fraud, albeit still possible via buying titles) to avoid taxes and avoid long standing smog rules, you just got busted.

I see this new law as nothing more than an enforcement measure. California is going <b>easy</b> on us not <u>screwing</u> us. Screwing us would be arresting everyone that committed the crime of fraud by wrongfully titling a car! Give me a break!

For petes sake, you people need to settle down. This will clean up our hobby not take it down!

If I have this wrong, please correct me. Man, I need to go out the the shop and beat on some sheet metal. :)
