Beach Hop 10 will be held 24-28th March 2010, and being our 10th Anniversary we wanted to do something special. So we have a Hot Rod, Harley and Classic Car that will all find new homes during the Festival. Here's the 1930 Model A - photo taken early September as purchased... it runs a 350/glide/9" and does 13 sec 1/4 mile. It was been on the road as a Hot Rod since 1983 and in need of a good tidy up. The body was removed by our volunteer team. The chassis was covered in grease, oil and grime.... We stripped the chassis back to bare steel and made a few repairs. New engine mounts we fabricated. The 32 radiator surround was stipped back to bare steel. The body was rubbed back and repairs made. Chassis and body painted in House of Kolor Tru Blue Pearl. Chromed Superbell front end. Rolling chassis with the body mounted. New Cragar Smoothie wheels and Coker white wall bias plys. Body removed and new brake lines were installed and bled. Engine assembled - this one is a temporary engine while the final engine is getting a full rebuild to 350+hp. Engine and gearbox carefully fitted to the chassis - no scratches! The finished chassis awaiting the final fitting of the body. Easy does it boys! Body fitted with no scratches! Next up will be fitting the radiator & 32 surround with chrome insert, gas tank, seat belts and reconnect the wiring. Then we'll fire it up and take it for a road test. After that it will be heading to the Upholstery shop for white tuck'n'roll. Will post more photos as we progress over the next week. Remember, this Roadster, along with a bobber style Harley and 63 Buick Le Sabre wagon will all find new homes at the Festival next year. Have fun! Noddy
You guys made a really nice job of the update! I like the Austin/Morris? side lights let into the cowl sides. Shame I'm about as far from NZ as you can get - wouldn't have minded a punt at that.
Do you mean the grab rails either side of the trunk? Good spotting! They are Austin A30 lights that work as park lights.... Noddy
Some updated photos of the prize Roadster.... The engine turned over for the 1st time tonight. Just needs gas, water, oil, stainless firewall and we can drive it! Hopefully off to the Upholstery shop this weekend.... Noddy
I was trying to work out "why no firewall"......then I realised it was a SBC.....shoulda known....gotta tune that heap WHILE you drive! Nice work though Noddy. You guys blow me away with the giveaways each year!
Hey airfares are cheap and it is only a 3 hour flight to NZ. And we give all Australian visitors a FREE "Aussie" entrant swing tag! JUST DO IT! Noddy
I hear you Peddro! But the SBC should make it scoot down the Hiway quite nicely.... And wait until you see the 63 Buick & Harley - they are going to be painted the same colour as the Roadster. Noddy
The Roadster is all gassed up ready to hit the road to Matamata in the morning to get the new interior fitted - bench seat and white tuck & roll... And finally a nice touch by Custom Auto Glass.... Nodzster
Nice, I kinda dig the bucket seats in it! I'm guessing the gram handles are for a dicky seat (Rumble seat for you US brethren) Beats the hell out of the ASRF give away cars over here, even if it does have a SBC Doc.
We'll save the bucket seats for a future project - I sit too high in them and with a bench seat we can squeeze 3 people in.... Now - maybe I should take the 401 Nailhead out of the Buick and put it in the Roadster and put the SBC in the Buick??? Hmmmmmmm. Noddy
