The roadster Pickup was a project Started by Gus Rollins He was building this truck to go along with his Bonneville car. The V 8 was installed and the frame was upgraded some to allow it to pull the tank and trailer. a model A rear spring and 40 rear end and brakes, the only departure from the build was an electric fan for idling in traffic. i believe the steering box is a F1

The King And Hanson belly tank ran the A streamliner class with a V 8 60 the best time recorded in 1948 was 112.92

I will try get a few more details posted on the project.

the whole project was loaded up in one trailer and hauled out to CA last january for the roadster show.Driving these two over the Rocky mountains in January not the smartest idea, and the project was delivered to its owner in TX by trailer from there it is driven to any event, a lot of history tied to the top of the trailer we need to preserve what we have before it is gone for good. Not only was getting to build the truck and help preserve the tank to see how Dave Kurz do the art work was just plain cool.

  21. What a great pic. If i didn't have a vette rear end in my roadster, i'd throw a flatty in it in a heartbeat.

  26. David Duthu was driving that rig all over the place at the Lonestar Round-up, it's quite a head turner to see that little RPU comin' with the Tank in tow. In fact, he drove it to Austin from Houston, he's having a blast with it. It's definately seeing some road time now that it is home.

    Go Duthu Go !........Johnnie.

  30. My mistake, I know the road trip was on the agenda, must not have worked out. Regardless, he's having a great time with the cars. And doing it all without a hint of bitterness.

    No petty bitterness whatsoever.......go figure.
