I have been working hard on my 55. My plan is to take this 4 door and put together my 2 door 55. I'll provide pics of my 2 door and the 4 door. You can see my goal here was to keep as much of the 4 door as I could to fix my 2 door.

I plan on installing new floors and braces in the 2 door so I will clean up the cowl I cut off of the 4 door, you can see in the pics of the 2 door it was really hacked up in the front. Next step I will be clearing off the back of the frame of the 4 door then strip it to a bare frame and build from there.

Since the sedans have the same frame it will just be easier to leave the 2 door alone until I have the chassis completed. I will install a 427 Big Block with 11/1 pistons, solid cam, rect port heads with an Edelbrock cross ram and dual 650 Holleys. I already bought everything except the heads and intake. 348 wagon springs with ball joint spacers, the Muncie M21 that the 4 door 55 had in it (one of the main reasons I picked this car for a parts car) and an olds rear that the 2 door came with all freshened up.

I hope to have the car painted and near finished by mid summer 2010.

    Time to bust ass!!!!

Pics of the 2 door I'm starting with...Guy standing next to it is HAMBer VonMoldy I bought the 2 door from...

Here is the 4 door, thought it would be easier to differentiate between the two cars if they were in separate posts.

Cut the wheels wells, Hugger orange, Black tuck and roll interior, i REALLY like this car..

Expect something very close to this. It will have a tribute on the front fender that is a tribute to my dads old 57 gasser and machine shop "Kirks Machine Shop, Moab, utah"

the name of the car...... "Knockin' Boots" haha...

Big block, 4 speed, cross ram....shouldn't be a poser at all :D

  4. Looks like a solid project!

  5. Now that is how you strip a car!! Nice project, good luck.-MIKE:D:cool:

Please put rolled lip on the rear wheel wells to sort of match the front? Other than that - it's a great car project :)

I have been really studying the different ways it's done and yes, it will have a lip on the rear. My Favorite method so far is to bend some 1/4" tubing over a tire, then tack and weld it around the edge of the wheel well and fill the small gap then grind clean. You end up with a small radiused lip protruding out.

You should have seen how rusty that more door was!! I cut the B pillar up high to take the roof off and the whole rear door fell on the floor and took the entire rocker with it! I looked and it was all bondo and fiberglass...LOL

  9. Looking forward to the build!

  10. While you are at it move the rear springs and wheel wells in for added clearance. You just might need more rubber on the road to maintain traction!

Well, got the rest of the body off, no real surprises in fact the frame was in better shape than I thought!

I'll get the engine out and front suspension off Saturday, then media blast the frame and start the build!

    Cool Project, Keep us posted.
What headers are you going to use. I am using Hooker chassis headers now
but don't like how they hang down. I want to go fenderwell, big tube race type.

DAMN thats a great looking 55, I love the stance, not too high, just right!

I'd love to have mine rolling by Christmas, then work on the body all winter. We'll see how it goes!

    Cheesewhiz...LOL

Got the car down to a bare frame and started sandblasting front end parts...not fun!

Stuff arriving via epay to get going on the chassis:

Side mount motor mounts for BBc
    Black poly front end kit
    New ball joints
New U bolts for the rear
5 Leaf wagon springs for the rear

Still need to order ball joint spacers,
New front coil springs for W block wagon,
    trans cross member

    Things are cruising right along!

And here is another view. Pretty clean, some sandblasting, primer, annd paint and it will look great.

I take it that you are not putting a straight axle under it. If you can put up some pics of the ball joint spacers and springs that you go with when you are done, I am wanting to get my front end up a little higher and that is the way I am thinking of going.

  28. Im building a 55 too, I wanted to put a big block with a Richmond 6 speed but its getting juat a small block with the Richmond. I was thinking the new mustang orange color....but changed my mind there too, now its going to be black with a blue flaked roof. Plans are ever changing and a car is never done! Oh ya it was going to be a 440 Mopar big block, just because ! Man I love that orange fiver
