OK I lost (cleaned the shop) the damn paper work on a new S/W volt meter for my 56,its got 3 post Pos,Neg,and a center one not marked ..........where do they go,?? Thanks!
You only need + and - on any volt meter. Don't know what the center post is about. You might meter it when you hook up the other wires to see if its hot or ground. Could it be a mounting post? N.N.
Does this work Here is the link http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://theneonedge.com/gauges/ElecVolt.gif&imgrefurl=http://theneonedge.com/gauges/gaugeinstall.html&usg=__cl_2TQvoze4wz8ad5lfOC9X0AKU=&h=206&w=325&sz=6&hl=en&start=41&um=1&tbnid=KyDStcEaiIWxCM:&tbnh=75&tbnw=118&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvoltmeter%2Bwiring%26ndsp%3D20%26hl%3Den%26safe%3Dactive%26sa%3DN%26start%3D40%26um%3D1
If you are still worried, test the "dead post" with an Ohm meter, it should give no reading. If you are STILL worried after that, put in a fast blow microfuse on the + wire, so if its wrong, the fuse goes before the gauge. I'll bet the "dead post" has no reading.
