Haha, they were lucky with this photo. Wonder if the photographer asked the to close their eyes :)

  5. Awesome spread Kev.
I spent a bit of this weekend browsing through a few of them older mags.
Picked up 30 or so for 50 cents each from a second hand book shop.
Found another 3 out of them to add to my collection. Need issue 1 & 2 still. lol

  6. This is one of my favorite covers from any magaine......

  7. This is the same car, generations apart. I loved the candy red / black lace painjob.

  8. This roadster owned by Dave Chung (later built the Puppy Love 56) was seen in Isky cams ad's in American magazines from the same time.

  11. Keep in mind when looking at this old drag machinery, there was no real drag strip in New Zealand until 1973.

Didn't they put a pic of your 56 doing a huge wheelie in the street on a cover? Or did I imagine that?

  13. May 86 issue has a pic inside. Not what I'd call a huge wheelie.

  14. Action shots!

that's really cool... just like here only there.

I used to work with a guy from New Zealand. I could only understand about half of what he was saying. I think he added to his accent and used extra New Zealand expressions just to mess with me. seems like every time we spoke he walked away laughing.

My first drag race at Bay Park (Circuit) watched Peter Lodge in Baloo, late 60's I think. They used the back straight which had a crown in it, no run off, AA/A powered Hemi, bucking, snarling, smoke, sideways - I was hooked :D

Lots of memories, had most of these mags at some stage, too many moves to too many place alas no more

WOW Kev! That's great - I've got the collection but to see them like this is superb. My favourite cover is July 1975 with Jim Walton's altered from Australia - that was my first ever drag meet and I was hooked...

  20. Another great cover was of an awesome black T Bucket.
    Can't remember the owner.. :D:)

Thanks,Kev.....I am missing the first five or six, I think. Interesting comment on the early pricing. I remember getting my first Mag from the local Dairy after my Mum gave me too much to get a loaf of Bread and something else...she couldn`t convert into dollars properly. We changed in `67 from Pounds to Bucks.... I remember chewing the end out of the fresh bread as I wandered home with my nose in the pages. Think it was the issue with Kevin Greenes Chev Coupe on the cover. Still addicted to Hot Rods and fresh Bread to this day.....

  22. Kev,good to see that you've got a great collection of old NZHR mags.Might pay to go and hide them....:D
