Well after about 6 months of this thing sitting in the corner collecting dust Im back working on it again. Never meant to let it sit that long but was busy working on a couple bikes this summer and well you know how it goes. I still need to finish the trunk floor but in order to do that I need to fix the outer part on the driver side so I have something to weld the floor to. There was alot of rust around the beltline molding so I cut it out and got rid of the seam that was there and just replaced it with one piece. The whole lip where the rear fender bolts to needs replaced so thats what Im in the middle of now. This rear quarter is the worst part of the car so I figured Id start here and get it out of the way. Hope to make some good progress its starting to get cold here so the bikes are tore apart for a rebuild this winter, haha neverending.
Dude I dig this car. You're doing an amazing job and it looks like you have no fear of taking on the tuff shit that comes along with the job. Keep us posted.
Looking damned nice so far! Amazing work on the chassis and floors. A 500 c.i Caddy? Just plain bad ass. Keep up the great work and by all means, keep posting up the in- progress pics! Damn!
Very nice work and an inspiration and challenge to get out in the garage and get to work for many of us. <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
I agree with everybody, You're doin some fine work ! I've started with some real Rustbuckets and gone thru the same things You're going thru, It's a long pain in the Ass process but well worth it in the end, I applaud Your efforts..Keep it up!
Very nice work!!! I am thinking that we both have the same car.....lol.....I just got a 50 Merc the same color as yours and the same rot except my frame seems to be good. I haven't got the body off of it yet so I am not sure. well congrats on saving another car especially a Merc
Heres a few updated pics. Got the panel replaced the length of the quarter panel and started on the very rear where the taillight was at. Came out pretty good but theres a few areas that need some more tweaking. All smoothed out... Rear piece tacked in place. Gonna try making the lower part tomorrow night hopefully.
This all proves again that these days you've got to be a restorer before you can be a customiser! Patience, good work.
Looking great...gives me some hope for the rusty 51 More door I dragged from its 20 plus years resting place in the woods.
Finally got the rear section around the taillight done. Felt like shit last week so didnt get too much accomplished. Still need to finish up around the trunk lip area but the deck lid is tacked shut so that will come later. Came out pretty good, it took like 6 pieces to make it all work. Heres a few pics..... Old and new...
