  3. I talked the guy that is making a kit for pressurizing the Model "A" block. It more or less duplicates some of the features of the Model "B" system. He furnishes an Al oil manifold that mounts to a steel plate that installs behind an Al valve cover. It uses short runs of copper tubing that pressurizes the mains and the front and rear cam bearings. Kit includes new higher volume oil pump and oil filter mount, All this for $800.00, you install. contact

Maybe this should be in the classifieds?

  5. Hi mate,
Thanks - yeah I am organising the run as well as trying to get the car done so something had to give.
That RHD stuff makes it tricky alright!

  6. Not to but in guys, but I want to climb on the band wagon! About a week and a half ago I picked up this 5 window, because of the completeness of the car and a couple banger buds I've decided that this one should not end up being chopped up. Maybe a few body piece removed and stashed, but that's about it.

Just look for a 26/27 crank...I have one, but it spent to much time on it's side prior to me getting it.

thanks , I guess thats what the EE is anyways??

there are a couple of ways to cut down an A crank...all of them that cost almost the same as bying one of the new cranks from any of the suppliers.

To do an "A" crank into a T block is bit of work, but a short summation below:

    1. Cut rear flange off crank, shorten rear main to T length, re-weld flange on (if you want a more technical description let me know). Install an "A" cam (ditto as above for Technical)

    A. Grind both the crank and rod journals to model T size, Shorten T rods. notch cam and go.

    B. Pour new babbit in block (oversize to Fit "A" crank), purchase cut down A rods. Notch camshaft.

    more?

Does anyone have the Napa part number for a replacement condensor for the newer Mallory distributors?

    Thanks!

thanks for the explination fur biscuit
    just found this
    http://modeltengine.com/ModelACrankConversion.htm

seems even simpler? and that line boring jig looks simple enough to make too!

only would have to farm out the cutting of the main journals then on the crank....

you could pressurize the mains and cross drill the crank, close in the rod dippers...

maybe i should just run my stock '25 crank till i have a problem and gradually build a 2nd block for the future...

any thoughts on removing all the guts from the T trans and only using the "high" as a clutch, then running a warford behind it...
seems i could cut the flywheel way down and get a ton of rotating weight out of there.... maybe even adapt some sort of aluminum flywheel and clutch/pressure plate inside of the T "trans" area??

I'm probably thinking too much!

you will want all the gears you can get...bolt the warford up behind the stock T tranny, it works fine. Build it and drive before you start fuckin' with it. Believe me you can make it T go fast enough to scare the living shit out of your self :D

good website, thanks for the link.

    thanks guys....

I have the car in a million pieces... motor down to nothing, just thinking i might as well go all the way since I'm starting from scratch

moreso my reason for removing the T trans parts is to reduce hanging weight on the crank and rotating mass so it revs quick

this'll likely be a full fendered 25 roadster lowered down with 19" 31 chevy wheels
if all works out it's going to have a RAJO BB-R head with stutz ignition...keep your fingers crossed for me! ;)

I figured its top of the line stuff so i might as well go all out and make it a full blown model-A killer!

my goal is around 1933 period correct street machine....

    Zach,
I'm going to see a guy today that has a bunch of T engine stuff. I'll see if he has any cranks he will part with.

    daddyo,

In case you didn't know Jim Cullinane, the guy that wrote the article you posted, recently passed away. I have 2 or 3 of the 11 books he wrote and published on hopping up model T's. Cool guy.

  23. Crazyd- you gotta stop teasin' us with that engine!

Looks like the '28 Chevrolet deal is going to happen- will post pics when all is done.
On a sidebar, I made it up to Hershey and had a great time (THANKS FOR HOSTING US noboD!!!). On sat, before heading back to the deep south, I had the pleasure of meeting ebtm3, who is more than an expert in early Chevrolet engines. I'm still going through about 4 pages of notes on modification, but had a question for the banger guys about rocker arms-

The stock Chevrolet rockers are 3 1/4" center to center. Any thoughts on a modern rocker with the same measurement? Early Nash are the same, but not that easy to find, and I'm also looking to improve on the stock 1:1 ratio.

In a perfect world, I'd pop down to my Bridgeport and mill out a set with roller tips and be on my merry way, but that's after teachers start making a bit of a better income :D.

    Thanks, Bill

The engine is out of a 1914 racer my uncle has had for the last 25 years that he has never done anything with. He was convinced to get it running by his fellow T club members. I'm helping him with it.

I have done this with mixed results. I shortened a Mustang Borg Warner T-5 5 speed transmission and put it in the drive-line behind the T trans. What I have found is that there is so much drag in the multiple disc clutch (turbo 400 discs) that the synchronizers in the transmission can't overcome it, so you can't get it into gear from neutral with the engine running. You can shift it from one gear to another when you are on the move.

Don Cusack from Minnesota put a Mustang 4 speed in his speedster and has run into the same problem.

If the clutch drag problem could be solved, then this is a very workable idea. Maybe an old Hudson cork clutch that ran in oil, or an industrial clutch of some kind.

For you guys running 12 volts with 6 volt starter. What size Batt. are you running?
    ( ??? 650 cold cranking amp.???? )
    Thanks Bill

  29. Optima red top currently. I am going to look for something smaller though as I have run into issues with clearance for my master cylinder and retaining the stock battery location. Civic batteries were being talked about on another thread about batteries I saw yesterday. The civic batteries are small and readily available anywhere. I think they mean Honda Civic batteries to clarify.

Oh I forgot I shot some banger porn for you guys also lol. Posting soon.-Weeks

And then there was the disappointment of CHHR and lack of bangers present.:confused::confused::confused:
I saw 2 bangers while there this weekend. Only pictures I took this year. I see this fella quite a bit at Famoso and also have seen pics of him elsewhere. This car gets some serious miles put on it.

Model A Dave came out to "represent". He through down a challenge to me about running the bangers at Dragfest this next year and I accepted. He gave me some hints on what I am up against with his truck. I followed him out last night and he was hitting 65mph+ on the way to the Famoso Chevron for some smokes. "Damn" is all I can say. Hope you all enjoy the pictures.-Weeks
