We ran a TNT at Lakeland last night, talked with the track officials, and we are confirmed for the BilletProof Drags next Sunday !! Also Nostalgia Larry (the announcer) told me our match-race would be a blown alky front engine dragster with a 392 HEMI It's gonna be a blast

We can only hope that it will be that cool next weekend.
I guess I'm ready after the pass I made down the road in front of the house yesterday. Shifted into third gear and the dragster decided to break the timing chain!!
Got it fixed and made another pass, it stayed together this time, so I'll be looking for somebody to run next Sunday. Any takers?????

Worked all weekend on my blown out headers. I think they'll hold together for a few runs down the track. Anybody know if I'll need seatbelts in my '55 chevy to pass TECH? Can't wait! Never been down the track before. 305 with an old stock powerglide. It's not fast, but it is fun!

 

I'm pretty sure the 2 main things they check are: seat belts and battery hold-down.

5 days till I should be there..also not that anyone cares lol but I should come in with the 59 buick beater but she will just be a pretty spectator

 

Due to some unexpected health problems with my mom, who lives with us, looks like we won't be making it to Lakeland this weekend. Not sure if the host motel is full yet for Saturday night but I have a suite available if anyone can use it. They have a seven day cancellation policy so I'll have to eat the $68 dollars for the one night. Please PM me if anyone can take it over for me. Thanks.

I'll be there Saturday afternoon. If the cool night weather holds, a jacket would be a good idea. This should be a blast. Who else is coming?

 

Me and some other Jacksonville guys/gals will be making our way down to spectate.

 

Is everyone else planning on having there old rodz there even if ur not running?

 

I would hope since it's a BP event that everone will be in there old tin. Should be a great turn out. The F-Bombs will be there. Hell, even some of the Burghounds C.C. are said to make an apperance. Maybe they'll put there purses down and get on the track, lol. Lookin foward to some good times.

Sounds good Theres another thread going on a saturday night meet up I mentioned meeting up at the hotrod diner/bar downtown "The chop shop". They got pabst flowing out the A! Then maybe getting a big meet at a local parking later that night lot. just let me know I believe I can get clearance on a few parking lots. Just something to do so no ones getting bored sat night trying to get crappy cable in there hotel rooms.

 

Ramblur thats the lakeland drag strip? If so Ive lived here my whole life and never seen those pics.

 

Yep thats it in the late 80's. No idea when it went under but judging by the
stubby guardrail posts it hadn't run for quite a while.Was a 1/4mile then and
I've seen pics of Garlits doing fire burnouts there.Anybody else have any
history?

 

There was also a Lakeland Dragstrip in another state, have seen pics of it when active, looks just like the track in those 2 pics

 

The "other" Lakeland track was I believe in Tennessee,these pics indeed
are what is now Lakeland Motorsports Park.I took these pics in the late
80's the day it was being auctioned off. Look at the first pic where it says
Florida International Raceway on the (old)tower. And behind the tower
you can see the bleachers of the circle track.

 

Oddly enough the only reference I can find on the web comes from
the Lakeland Tenn. site and shows a funny car crash at the
Lakeland,FLORIDA track during the 73 IHRA Winternationals.
