Compare the thread pitch to a 1/4-20 bolt. I am betting the other guys are correct in that is "was" a piece of threaded rod for an aircleaner. and I can see how many miles of running could produce the uniform wear by rubbing the valve.

Smokey Unick was known for carving out intake/exaust runners by strange means, to get a natural look. :)...i'd like to see the port it came out of

Well you guys know your stuff! it's a "dickfer" :p hahaha jk

I really can't figure it out either, I'll check the threads on it later tonight and inspect some similar air cleaner bolts for a comparison.

After looking at the intake runner that it was sitting in again I don't see how it could have been in there bouncing around for any period of time?? maybe if one end even possibly could have been shaped that way I don't know how the other end of it could have been, it's too long to flip around in there from end to end. hmmm

I don't see how a blade could be attached... it looks like both sides are perfectly rounded.

If there was some marking, indentation, or attachment point on this thing, it would really make it a lot easier to identify...

Double ended butt plug with a sure grip center - very rare item, most get lost never to be seen again.

    Easy,

It's a knife rest. You use it during fine dining to rest your knife on so the tablecloth doesn't get dirty.

Am I the only cultured one here?

Here's one on egay. Look familiar?

no wonder the guys in the Miracle Garage could never find that funny buzzing sound that engine always seemed to make...

Ok, so upon further inspection I think John Walker is correct, it has been bouncing around back and forth under the intake valve for who know how long. the edges of the little bulbous area of valve stem are all rounded nicely and smooth and shiny from this bolt or whatever it was from bouncing around.
(makes me wonder what the thing sounded like when it was running ??)

what's amazing is that the cylinder wall looks just fine, it has hardened insert intake valve seats which may have helped keep it from wearing into the cylinder or valve seat?

Unfortunatly I think this engine met its demise from sitting for 10 yrs and may have a freeze crack somewere since there was antifreeze in the oil pan and I don't think it came through a leaking head gasket??

thanks all for the good times, and Laughs trying to figure this out! I'll post a picture of the valve stem once I get it removed, (tomorrow night) hopefully.

Ok, folks , I have the word on this , Listen up!

This is the tool that they used in the Navy when your cock scarred up from Clap. Every day you would have to insert this up the cock until your expanded the scars on the inside of the cock.

You have felt nothing , until you have experienced the glorious feeling of breaking the scars loose inside your cock each and every morning so you can take a leak.

I dunno, that looks waaaayyyy to perfectly symetrical to have been shaped by chance, rollingand bouncing around inside an engine...

But then again I'm looking at it through an iPhone..

My initial reaction was a clay sculpting tool, but I think it's too short..

I agree. Its perfectly symmetrical, there's no way that would have happened rolling around inside the intake. Its too long to flip inside the runner, if it did manage to roll back and forth it still wouldn't create identical complex curves on each end. Plus, it looks small enough to go partially through the valve. Probably too long to get into the cylinder, but if it had been run for any length of time my bet would be a jammed valve.

Having said that, I have NO idea what it is. What type of metal is it? Almost looks like silver, which would definitely make it some kind of jewelry.

Since the best one - "a double-ended dildo
    for a Barbie doll
    " has already been suggested.
I'm left with some other equally plausible,
but perhaps somewhat less likely possibilities.
Maybe a flux capacitor for a Delorean? Perhaps
    a thrush-resistant cobbelnacker from a ZIL
    limousine?? Or a home-built muffler-bearing
calibration tool for a Trabant station wagen
possibly??? Most likely though, it's a piece of
deadly radio-active space junk from a
disintegrating North Korean spy satellite that
fell from the sky, hit your car, passed through
the carburetor and ended up wedged in your
    intake manifold!!! :eek::D

It's an anti-rotation pin that used to come with adjustable lifters back in the 50's. Here's one in use.:D
