I checked out the Henry Ford Museum website, They will research stuff for you for a per hour price. There also seems to be alot of info on the website itself ( I only skimmed a little of the site ) Hope it helps or at least gives you another direction to look.
Sounds good . . . . BUT . . . Every angle has been checked and rechecked. Lawyers all agree. it´s not possible. Only way to drive a foreign company car is from work in another country, and directly home, or of course the other way around. Not even stopping to buy groceries are allowed! Same goes with Danish company cars, if you stop at the Mall, (and get caught in the act), you will have to pay tax, for "having access to a free car". It will typically cost me 20 - 22000 DKK is equals 4000$. Thats a year. If you next year also drives a company car . . . .you guess !!
It must be the car manufacturer OR his representative in Denmark. Thats "Ford Motor Company Denmark" They have no clue at all " Model A . . . what is that?? "
Why not build the car, sneak it across that bridge to Sweden and get it registered there, then "buy" it back into Denmark? I feel for you lot suffering under those rules - we have it comparatively easy in the UK at the moment, but the EU politicians (and their un-elected taggers-on), in their quest for complete domination are trying to make it harder for us all the time.
The use of another EU country for registration is gone now, that loophole was closed (or is closing). That's why we (UK) now have to comply with BIVA not SVA (our approval system for modified and home built vehicles). The shame of it is that EU type approval regulations allow member countries to set up similar schemes of their own, most haven't and will not (UK being the one exception). Some serious lobbying is called for!
There was a time when we could simply register a car in germany and call it done. Now the law is gettin tighter and tighter on us. It sucks big time. and makes me wanna move to the USA more and more. Just a personal tale from last week: Last monday i brought my beater 70 ford for MOT. Its lowered to scrap, has a souped pinto w/ 5speed shaved doors, and the list goes on.... Basically: No way to pass. I had to give 350 euros to the mech to have my MOT. For you US guys its more than 500 bones! I woulda been luckier w/ an A thoug, as they would have no clue on what could be original and what not. But this is just an inspection by a private garage. Registerin a veichle is totally another story. And its nightmareish. What i told my girl was: if i cant make it pass we gonna move to either cali or sweden! No shit! She was quite angry at 1st, cause she said i only think about myself, but then remembered that i always was a gearhead and made it clear from day one and was quite enthusiastic on the idea to move to the states! But then i passed! Back to your issue!!!! What do The local clubs say? Arent the Scrapers cc from denmark? or the Trashers? Anyway, im pretty sure you have some clubs, what do they say??? Or are all gearheads from Denmark moving in Holland or north EU??? For everybody wantin to start a "SEMA like group" to have our own hot rod or custom car plates, or simply modified car plates, we should start a thread or a Social Group discussin it. SERIOUSLY!!!!!
I know a guy in the UK who knows all the regulations and laws. He may be able to help. A social group would be a good start.
If I remember correctly, the American Car Owners Club of Norway did a lot of lobbying here, especially with members of parliament and Department of Transportation. They formed alliances with several liberal politicians, who supported their cause and made things happen. Another important thing was all the stubborn builders, who built high quality, SAFE cars, so the DMV finally saw that hot rods didn't equal shit box death traps driven by thugs. They sent formal applications with all the modifications described in detail, with references to existing american and swedish cars. A few "case studies" were done and the DMV tested a few cars thoroughly. I don't think any laws actually were changed, only the interpretation of them. We still have to apply up front, but the DMV is more consistent now. The car also has to be registered here prior to 1971, you can't change the body style, and it has to "be identifiable" as the make and model stated on the title. Unfortenately, this system is built upon trust, so when people start building rat rods and skip inspection and registration, we'll be in trouble here too.
I hope your beloved Princess Mary doesn't send your laws back home to Australia, it's already hard enough!
Do you have some kind of organization like the swedish SFRO (roughly translated to Swedish Vehicle Fabricators Organization) http://www.sfro.com ? They've done a lot of hard work for us swedes to be able to build hot rods, customs and bikes. But I think they started their lobbying in the early 80's. If not; maybe it's time to get one started, to be able to lobby against the stupid rules you have to put up with?. It's probably hard work, and a long road to take, but you gotta start somewere. Try to get the legislators to look at the swedish system, a system that works very well (at least in comparison to danish model).
Netherlands when a car is older then 40years you dont have any kind of testing... you can do whatever you want...
WOW This is the shit! No wonder you have so many bad ass rides over there. Lets all move to the Netherlands and build hot rods! J/K, anyway, its a pretty damn free country you live in. This alone is a good enuff reason to move there,w/out taking into account all of the other benefits.....if only wasnt so cold in winter.... I thought in Sweden too if your car was 50 or something years old after initial inspection you were good forever, but i might have gotten that wrong. Anyway, lets start talkin this social group to help european gearheads out. I'll start it between now and tomorrow and post the link here.
No can do. Have to built the car in Sweden and have it inspected, while building. Also need to be a resident in Sweden to have it approved. You need to get a Swedish ID card issued first. Niels
Hi Been mailing with Mart (www.martsrods.com) BIVA doesn´t it call for the car beeing heavily modified ?? Was beginning to consider an import to GB, MOT and registration, and then a reexport to Denmark. Is that out of the question ???? Niels
Im in on that , would love to join a social group. Could you PM me regarding "the UK GUY",. I´m trying to establish a network of people with knowledge on "How to get things done" Niels
I'm not gonna complain about the 70% increase in tags we just got in FLA in September. Count yer blessings boys.
So make up some FMC letterhead, have someone write out what you need and have someone mail it from Dearborn (I'm heading back to Detroit for Christmas).
Our DSRA are trying their best, so far a few things has been "Cleared" fx the use of IRS or Opel Commodore front axels. But thats really not the problem, if I got the money, I could get almost anything approved. Problem is the cost involved, I would love to build a new frame, instead of patching up the old rotten one, but it´s simply to costly!!!! The tax system hits real hard on anything you change. One of the guys just build a Custom, super nice car by the way. He turned a 1952 Chevy 210 (As far as I remember!! ) into a cab. Nothing fancy at all in the way of chassi or driveline. That set him back 30000 something DKK ~ 6000$ Niels
why don't you post your mailing address.... maybe someone from Ford will see this and go ahead and mail it to you.
Yep! Course, more and more the good ones are getting out/moving departments, etc... Had one go in last week and we have to come up with a "road legal" certification for the TCI IFS that was put in it. And, the shocks travel wasnt far enough - eventhough it has air bags on the rear. (actual travel possible ~1.5 inch). Its a pain, but you live. Might try AMCAR and see if they would have any guidance for you...?? <input id="gwProxy" type="hidden"><!--Session data--><input onclick="jsCall();" id="jsProxy" type="hidden">
Nope, it's merely about the money. Simple as that. governments sure are greedy guys, worldwide. As far as FoMoCo is concerned, I wouldn't give a rat's ass on that. They refused to help me on the T-5 mustang, telling me since it has been imported and sold officially through Ford Cologne in the mid-sixties, it would be a "German" car and I should contact Ford Cologne. Ford Cologne refused to help as well, telling me the opposite thing: American car, not their business. Go figure.
