The numbers of equipment lost during WW2 is unreal. Here's a link listing approximate losses. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equipment_losses_in_World_War_II
One of the largest tank museums is Jacques Littlefield collection, Sadly Littlefield passed away last year. This guy took a bunch of pics from two tours he went on there. http://russiannavy.net/photos/littlefield/ He was working on this before he passed. <object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/KauAxwx-MpU&hl=en&fs=1&"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/KauAxwx-MpU&hl=en&fs=1&" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>
Yes, a must read. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss?url=search-alias=aps&field-keywords=hunting+warbirds&x=13&y=18 The B29 A.P.U. Evidently the B29 must have this generator running when taxiing, because the generators on the main engines don’t make sufficient power at low RPM. After start up of the four, the battery’s are probably nearly dead. Note the easily serviced fuel pump. What a fuckin shame.
Interesting stuff here. I saw the first video's on the tank a year or so ago and was interesting about the pete bog protecting it from rust.
I watch this story on TV and I was left completey miserable. I couldn't beleave it just burn up like that! It was so close and then all was lost. I've never seen anything like it. jared
How about a pilot recoverd...Those bogs are like natures vacuum sealer http://forums.jetphotos.net/showthread.php?t=43896
Yeah, thanx for correcting my typo and the added info Doc! Lotta interesting links poppin up, Keep em comin guys!
don't forget the a/c's goming out of freshwater lakes, a few out of lake michigan and a few over in europe all in great shape.
Yep. And here, we have the most recent pics of the Lady. Sitting in a police compound of some sort in Tripoli... http://www.montrealfood.com/lbgpics.html
I'm with Watson on this one. Fuck Darryl Greenamyer. I saw the NOVA special on the KEE Bird. So excited about the find and the fact that FIFI might have some company. Then the goddamn thing is gutted by fire. I actually felt sick.
Guess he saw the film of Howard Huges flying the Spruce Goose on what was supposed to be a taxi test a few too many times.
They're still out there... Kawasaki Hein Ki-46 Last paragraph here... http://www.fantasyofflight.com/aircraftpages/zero.htm And while not technically a battlefield,(it sure looked like one after Andrew went through) this 1928 Ford is being reborn in Michigan after being destroyed in hurricane Andrew in 92.My dad flew in it in 1950, I got a ride in the 80's and now it looks like my boys might get their chance. http://blog.kermitweeks.com/?p=674 Ultimately though, even sadder than the loss of warbirds to time and accidents is the fact that we're losing those who built, wrenched, crewed and flew them at a much faster rate. http://www.fantasyofflight.com/livinghistory/index.htm
the guy that did the recovery attempt was a real tard an absolute imbecile, a small fuel tank to gravity feed a aux gen set in the tail...breaks loose, cause a fire?!
