I'd like to take a month and drive from here in Michigan out to California in an old car (not sure yet what I would want to take) camping along the way, seeing the sights, traveling some back roads, not being in any hurry at all, etc.

You know I wanted to go to Bonneville and drive a car I built. Did That. Wanted to see the Pyramids. Did that. See Mt Everest. Did that. Can't help with the others but if it's Bonneville your hung up on I may be able to help.

Finish one car well enough to drive it to the LA Roadsters and home again without having my fingers crossed the whole way. (Actually, I'm not that far away.)

Ditto, but to Florida.

Doing the Rolling Bones Reliability Run. Might actually make it this year if I get my trans fixed. (Was kind of stoopid at Wildwood this week with a '39 box. Really looked cool though and made it home, 350+ miles, under my own power. Testament to old Fords stamina).

*spend a week with Richard Petty
*compete in the La Carrera Panamericana
*ride the Isle of Man circuit on Ducati Sport 1000 S
*finish my car of course and build a hemi powered model A
*drive an AC Cobra/GT-40/Ferrari 250 GT Spyder California

1: Design, fabricate and drive a car of my own design...then do it again, and again...
2: Starting from Ocean City, MD's ocean-front boardwalk, drive cross-country in a roadster, Rt 50, I-70, Rt 66, I-15 then run the full length of PCH 1 as far north as it will take me-preferably with a great friend with a good appetite.
3: Make an event's worth of passes at Bonneville in anything that passes tech and has 4 wheels.
4: Attend Frank Hawley's drag racing school, working my way up to Top Alcohol Funny Car passes.
5: Participate in the Pasadena Reliability Run.
6: Spend a springtime month Jeeping around the American Southwest-Moab, Grand Canyon, Mesa Verde, Chaco Canyon, etc.
7: Drive in a Saturday night Nascar Late Model feature race at one of the best 1/2 miles in the land; Hickory, Irwindale,Bowman-Gray, Concord, Myrtle Beach..
8: Drive an Offy-powered Watson Roadster at Millers at Milwaukee.
9: Design a 'phantom' classic to be shown at Pebble Beach.
10: Participate in the 'new' Targa Florio in an American-powered car and find my grandfather's ancestral home in Siracusa.
11: Take in the F1 Grand Prix at Spa-Franchorchamps, Monaco, Monza.
12: Attend the Goodwood Festival of Speed...and maybe drive.
13: Be a crew member for an American team running the 24 Hours of LeMans.
14: Drive a Supermodified at Phoenix Int'l.
15: Teach car design at my alma mater.
16: Last but not least...have a burger with Bob and a hundred+ HAMBers at the 'new' Harvey's Broiler.

It's funny how Bob's thread here is making me question my life's purpose and choices. Hmmmm...time to ponder some changes.

Finish the 48 once and for all. So that I can actually tell myself that it is truly finished.

Go to the Indy 500
Race at Bonneville in a competitive car
Drive the 48 to the Roundup and swing by and tell Bad Bob to fire up the Merc and lets hit the road. Actually my wife and I plan to swing down through Cali, across to Vegas then on to Austin and Central TX when the 48 is done.
Make some of those other events that I have read about for the past 35 + years and never had time to go.
I've got 4 projects in the works now and that's it. The last one of those won't see much headway until I retire. I'll always be tinkering but now I think I would rather spend a few years driving the wheels off my cars instead of trying to build another one.

As far as checking things off the list.
I've been to Bonneville twice 1988 and 1998 and plan to go a few more times.
I've made four long (2000 or more miles) road trips in the 48 already and plan several more
Went to the Street Rod Nationals #3 at Tulsa in the 48.
Hit Plesanton in 1998 after Bonneville in the 48.

Guess I'm getting old, mostly the stuff I think of is stuff I'd like to do AGAIN...
BTW, I miss Sonoco 260 too, and the high compression cars that needed it.

I'd like to buy Lions and reopen it...
Kick the yuppies outa Half Moon Bay and reopen that too.... And Fremont.... and Ramona... And Drag City... And etc.... And not let anyone affiliated with NHRA on the property. I'd run only 2 classes, Participant and Spectator. No trophys or prize money or points, just match racing. Make em safe for what they can do and let em drag it out!

I'd like to have the money to just hop in a Model A coupe going wherever I want and doing whatever I want, whenever I want.
