After H.A.M.B member "Jimmy B" did so much research on the car I bought
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=372165
I decided to reward him with a "Finders Fee" for all his work
If not for him,I may have passed on buying the car
I asked what I could do for him
All he asked for ,was a Steering arm from Vern Tardel
"No Problem I said" so I ordered it and paid with my credit card (including shipping to Australia)
That was a couple of months ago
So far he hasn't recieved the part
I've Emailed Vern Tardel several times
    No Reply!
I've faxed a letter with order number
    No reply
    Are they still in business?
I did read on Vern Tardel's site, that they had ordering problems
    They said send a fax
    So I did
    No answer
Jimmy B really needs this part for his car
I don't want to contact my credit card company yet
    Anyone know Vern?
    HELP!

I don't think that Vern uses email much.

They were late sending me a part once, I called, Vern answered, he explained that the part had to be made, and I had the part the next week.

You don't get much better of a hot rod person then Vern. He likes folks to use fax, common knowledge. Busy time of the year right now, try faxing again earily next week.

Aren't they going to Hawaii too?

Probably ought to give em a week or two and try again.

Keith and Mary are going with Ryan and Marcie.

  9. I would guess that it is only Keith/Mary, Ryan/Marcie on the Hawaii deal.:)

  10. You will never pick up a phone and talk to Vern. If you need to discuss anything with him, you need to send him a fax with your phone number on it and he will get back to you.

That's just the way it is.

    Yep
    I faxed my number also
I paid for the part on July 28th
Not a good way to run a business

  14. Fax him again, sometimes faxes fail.

  15. Let me see if I have this right.
    I Take the money.
then Fax me and I will get back when it is convenient for me.
Call back in a few weeks, I am gone or busy now.

I think not. There is no excuse for poor customer service if you are in business.

  16. LOL, never dealt with Vern before I see. Yeah it sucks but he told me himself that if he had a public number that every Tom, Dick and Harry would be calling him to shoot the shit. It's at his liberty to do as he pleases.

i've dealt with vern several times, but he is only 45 minute drive from me.
i've always had good service from him, but if he has to make something, because he is out of stock, it may take a while.
try and fax him again and be patient, he'll make good on whatever

That's Kinda the way I feel
A H.A.M.B friend, in the middle of Bumbfuk Australia, is trying to build a car.
    http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/album.php?albumid=113
He needs the part to set up his steering
so he waits for 3 months?
It takes twice as long to get something built in other countries because of shortage of parts
We have it easy in the States

  19. Some people need to get their head out of Tardels "celebrity" arse.

If you can't interact with customers, produce or ship parts when people order them you shouldn't be in business. Simple as that.

If this situation was with any other Hot Rod supplier this thread would be 5 pages deep with the company getting ripped to pieces. Its not fair.

If Vern wanted to he could be as big as So Cal. He keeps his business as small as he wants it. That is the way he likes it. If you don't like go elsewhere.

    ?????
    Are you kidding?
So if I can't get a part from someone in 2 months, Go somewhere else?
I guess my money don't count
Then give it back.............. and I'll go elsewhere

I had a little delay getting a oreder earlier this year, I kept e mailing and got a responce from Rolo , they made everything right with me.

They may be a little slow to get back with you , but they will make it right.

  26. Some people infer things that were not said about other peoples positions on a subject.

I have been dealing with Vern for a few years now. We offer the drop service on his axles. Some times it takes months to get paid for the work we do and then a few more before they get delivered. It's the way he chooses to do business, like it or not. I certainly understand your frustration but that's the way it is.

hey, if you choose to keep the tradition going and wanted a part made by an ol'hotrodder, you're gonna have to wait. If you can't wait and need your money back, send the old dude a fax... or two. He'll call you back. But keep it friendly.

AND don't waste too much of his time on the phone because the next part he's making is for me... see what i'm trying to say? This isnt a big coorporation we're dealing with.... just some old dude who knows what he's doin.

Vern has always been a good person and a lackluster businessman. He has always been friendly and a mentor for projects etc. but he just never had the "businessman" gene that others of his generation in the old car arena like Gene Scott, Harold Looney, Bill Norton, Tommy Traylor, Bob "The Duck" Drake, Don Snyder, and the "newer" generation like Dick Spadaro.
So it goes when you come from relative obscurity and become a demi-god in your hobby in your lifetime. He should enjoy his life and obviously IS!
Sorry for the folks who want his merchandise but that is the was it was, has been and will be. You either wait, or make do from other sources.

To those people who always complain that there are no old time hot rod shops left, Vern's might be the last. You might not be old enough, or have forgotten how these old time shop owners were. I'm talking about the Tommy the Greeks, Romieo Palamedes and Von Dutch'es. They would run you out of their shop calling you names you hadn't even heard before just because they were having a bad day or maybe just for fun. I know I had Tommy do it to me and my dad once. But that's another story. These guys only run a business to make a living. You should have gotten a clue when you read he only used a fax. machine. I guarantee that is modern technology to Vern. Although Vern is nothing like the people I described above I know him to be kind of shy and a man of few words. But if your lucky enough to get a rod in his shop and he takes a liking to you he might pull out something from his stash like the mid 30s Cadillac taillights he added to the the Phil Linheres 34 sedan project.
But then again if you want anothe So Cal complain enough and maybe Kieth will take you up on it.
Okay I got it offr my chest. Thanks

    PLEASE READ!!!!!!!
I just checked my Credit Card account
Do I feel like a "Dumbass"
Seems Vern....... gave me a refund on Aug 19th
Since I seldom use the card, I didn't catch it
My credit card company never sent me an Email telling me about the transaction and "Credit"
and since I always pay it off before it's due
    I never check the statements
    here's what Vern wrote:
    "Steve/Jimmy-
Sorry for not getting back to your emails promptly...we've been off playing racecars at Bonneville.

I'm out of stock of these, and won't be restocking anytime soon. 'm sorry for the inconvienence. Let me know if there's anything I cando "

    Vern:
Sorry for all the Bad Rap I gave

Vern is a "Class Act" .........and he has my sincere Apologies
