Cool! Ya grabbed a photo of my wife jumping out of our black Meteor haha. She won the "Best Horn" contest w/ her '63 Falcon on Friday. Weather was perfect. Seems like it was the largest Rebel Run to date. Sad it's over!
Where is this show held? Is it the original "Rebel Run" from Fairmount? Gas City/ Ducktail and the James Dean Reunion is this weekend correct? Btw the green chevy is owned by Jake Mooney and is VERY nice!!!
It's in Lima, OH at the Allen County Fairgrounds. It's a beautiful place to have an event like this. It has a long history. The name and rites (I think) have changed hands a few times in the past. It is in fact the show that started in Fairmont years ago then was moved to Gas City then Muncie and then Marion, IN. (I think I got the moves right, the last too could be reversed) There was alot of politics and greed involved in the past until the fellow that has it now. A nicer person you'd have trouble finding. He moved the Rebel Run to Lima, OH a few years back and it has really taken off. He has a Root Beer stand close by where there was a sort of kick off cruise on Thursday before the event. Word has it that they're going to try to have an event the beginning of June next year and then the Rebel Run in the fall. There is quite a cross section of customs and hot rods but they really have quite a few Mercs for the Merc Corral.
The Merc Corral is a tad..."exclusive". You would think all Mercs would be welcome. Not so. '57 and older only. Doesn't even have to be a "James Dean" '49-'51 Merc. You could have a '40, a '54, whatever. Just don't be newer than '57! No pics of the Barney Fife impersonator? Or the giant walking ice cream sandwich? haha Good times, good times.
Hey FalconEddie--Thanks for the great pic of my Poncho Wagon. You can't even tell it had the Krylon Touch!! Definatly a fun show but now looking forward to Ducktail!!! Hope to see ya there.
Damn! Lots of Mercs. I like that green 53/54 Chevy. Working weekends sucks......wish I could have been there..
Anyone know the owner of the orange GMC who won the Muffler Rap?? It was good to see a new contender this year. Also, the "displays of horsepower" went a lil crazy in the streets once the Saturday show let out. Drag racin' at the lights, too. I'm sure the cops didn't know which way to run.
Like the announcer said, "It's amazing what you people will do for a piece of wood!" (Meaning the plaques.)
The Rebel Run is one of my favorites..Thanks for sharing the pics..That's my hot rod tub with the checkerd firewall..Hope to make some more traditional changes over the winter.......
Mommy, the grandma's with the puppies on their dresses are scary!! It is ok dear they are just having fun!! Grandma do you do that? No honey, but I do have a special dress I wear sometimes for daddy when we are having fun! Some great Mercs as always, plus plenty of other cool stuff, the vintage racing was a treat as well. Do I see an Ardun sticking out the hood of one of those vintage racers? The turquoise 49-50 Olds coupe made me miss my old 49 club coupe. Thanx for all the great pix!! ~Sololobo~
