If you have the correct acme tool to adjust the shoes with the drums off to fit within .003 of the inside diameter of the drums then the thing will stop fair. If you adjust by feel then it will be long stops. I have replaced mine with disc on the front and a 90 Dakota rear so I now have modern brakes, not power so they take some force to stop short. The original are sufficent for a flathead six powered car but I would replace them on a V8 powered car. Every time the brakes need to be adjusted all four drums must come off to use the acme adjuster which can be a real chore.

I have one setup from PlyDo and another setup from Rusty Hope or Old Daddy, I believe that he is a member here on the forum. They both use MoPar rotors with chevy calipers and their 3/8" steel bracket to adapt them to the Plymouth spindles. I am using the ones from old daddy on my car now but will replace them with a set of Fat Man dropped uprights with the PlyDo disc setup I bought with A frames after I buy and Install a rebuild kit for the front suspension.
