Are 9" rearends getting scarce in your area?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Just Gary, Sep 12, 2009.

  1. Up until about a year ago, I could get a complete 9" (typically 31-spline "open-diff" from a '70's F-150) for as little as $20 on Washington DC Craigslist.

Now they're more scarce and go for at least $75. Those with trac-loc are almost non-existant.

    Anyone else notice this??

up here they are scarce, and this is 4x4 country. $150 average price. Luckily I stockpiled a few 10 years ago.

Still pretty easy to come by in Texas. Prices up there don't sound to bad compared to down here.

To expect to buy one for $20-30 is unrealistic.Thats just a few dollars over scrap. I have over 100 and sell them for $150. The dumba$$es have sold out or been put back in the asylum.

I haven't priced them but I think the going price around here is between 100 and 200 depending on who from. Craigslist prices on them are usually pretty stiff here as the sellers think they have a gold mine.

Around here, they are everywhere. Not sure about average price though but I would say $100 and up. Usually you can pick up a whole car or truck with one for $400 and have other parts too.

We switched to 8.8" Ford rear ends about a year ago because the 9" supply is drying up around here.

Paid $40. for my 8" from a 69 Torino with 32,000 on it.. off of Craigslist..

  22. Some guy has a route, buys all the 9" rearends around here for $150. each. Couple of years ago, you could buy em' all day for $50.

  23. I have 3 63/64 Fords with the smooth rounded differentials. From what I have heard they are more desirable because of the appearance when you can see them from behind.Just found another one today under a 63 Merc.Of course the diffs might have to be narrowed but I,m going to sell them all....

  24. Why? The last new Ford production stuff ended in 1986 or 1987. Factor in hot rodders, dirt car guys, drag racers, restorers, hoarders, and scrap metal prices.

I pay $50.00 for any Ford 8 or 9" rear end, regardless of width, brakes, posi, open, gear ratio etc. By the time I straighten them ('cuz they are all bent), clean them, narrow them and grind any old brackets off, I can't pay any more for them. I do not go looking for them, people bring them to me. There are some people who believe that they are scarce and worth a small fortune, but I never have trouble finding what I need and I have several dozen now as I write this.

You guys are lucky, down here you need to fork out $350 for a centre suitable to rebuild, and that with 2.7's open. Havn't seen a whole housing complete for less than $500 in a long time.

Plentiful around here (Alabama), but priced from $100 (without Traction Lock) to $300 (with Traction Loc). I'm talking about the F150 rearends, at these prices.

Edit: I see that Jarrad's pricing verifies this.

Around here, $300 is a bargain price on a complete '57-59 rearend.
