I like they are showing more of the guys "doing" the work not just Jay signing a check. Duesey engines are a work of art! If they could get the announcer to call nickle plating, the right thing, chrome it ain't. tt

Jay Leno is a real car guy, not just a checkbook writer. When he and his wife stopped by the now closed car museum in Shreveport a few years ago he was looking at the Dusenberg that was on loan. It was sitting crooked so he slid right under that car to check it out. I took a picture of him only showing his legs sticking out from under the car, he later autographed it and it was displayed next to the car.

Where was the work done? At Jay's shop or Randy Ema's?

Apparently it is a six part series, see full schedule here:

    http://www.diynetwork.com/diy/episode_archive/0,1000626,DIY_33156_1135,00.html

The actual show is Celebrity Rides.

    From their site:
    "About This Show-
DIY Network's six-part series, Celebrity Rides: Jay's Duesenberg, is an in-depth look at the restoration of Jay Leno's famed "Last Duesenberg." Along with world-renowned Duesenberg specialist, Randy Ema, they show step-by-step how they bring a daring Duesy back to life for the most jaw-dropping vehicle restoration ever presented. Viewers might be surprised to learn that Jay's car skills are equal to his comedy skills. He's the absolute real deal in the shop. Viewers witness this amazing car being reborn and laugh along with Jay and Randy on DIY Network's Celebrity Rides: Jay's Duesenberg."

Was channel surfing at 5 after and hit the first episode. My ass was glued to the chair for all of the episodes. I love listening to Jay talk about his cars. He really knows his shit and loves to drive them. The green duesenberg without the head on it was being redone because he blew it up. That is kick ass. He made a comment about being able to do 80-90 on the freeways no problem with them even though Randy cringes every time he does it. What a treat. Randy Ema seems like a true pro also.

  20. Yep to all of the above. Great show, and I think Leno is a real car guy. Just as apt to leave a car stock as to cut it up, and not just for show. I started watching the first one at 11 last night and couldn't turn em off.

His tastes are quite eccentric. He loves steam cars. He is like a walking enciclopedia when it comes to old cars, and he is very hands on. Hes been spannering all his life. And he drives all his cars, and drives them hard, and he is openly critical of trailer queens. Just a very cool car guy.

a little O/T but pertinent to Duesenbergs - About fifteen years ago I'm sitting at my business and Elpollacko calls. "Get up here right now, I need a hand, oh and I'm working on a duesenberg" I don't think the phone had time to hit the cradle before I had my second in command in charge, and smoke coming off the Plymouths rear tires! I actually called myself in to my own business for the next couple of days so I could work on that thing! Truly bitchin'!

Sounds like this is the show that aired a year or so ago, correct? Car looks great in person, just a rebuilt engine and new tires and a mechinical check up & overhaul, and its a driver.

That was a great show did anyone see the cost of the resto. for the duesy...?
My wife was digging this show...because they told you about the details.:)

  26. No, that was the garage find car that they just 'recommissioned', this was a total resto job on a different model

Thanks! Wonder if this is the same car that was in a New York City parking garage forever and Jay finally got it. Hope the show aires again here on the East Coast.

Thats the one they were working on. He talked about going garage to garage asking for old cars, in hope of stumbling across it(not sure how true that part is).

The Model J or the Model A garage find? Both were known amongst Duesenberg guys and there have been no "true" Model J finds in the last 40 years. There may be one hidden some where in France but all others have all been accounted for.

I seem to remember an interview with Jay on possibly "My Classic Car" where they were checking out his Stanley Steamers & he was telling a story where he got a ticket at 110 in a Stanley Steamer on the freeway. The cop thought it was on fire, thought the steam was smoke!
