Things to do in Vegas when you're not dead

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by VirgilHilts, Sep 3, 2009.

  1. I'm in Lost Wages, Sept 20 to 24 at a convention. I'm going to hit Frankies Tiki Room for sure but anyone else have some suggestions for neat chit to see/do? Wife will be there so even good places to dance in the evening would be appreciated.
I'm on the strip (MGM) so not too far would be cool but I'm gonna grab a rental one day and see Hoover dam. Thanks!

rode the duece a bit to see sites and gamble. Most of the time was spent manning the booth at the convention center. The wife went with a friend's wife and came back a few shopping bags heavier.

Places I liked were the Venetian, Margaritas, and the David Copperfield show.

  5. There's a pretty neat auto museum inside the Imperial Palace.

The cars cover a wide spectrum of years, brands, etc- including a few hot rods & customs. Many are for sale (at inflated prices). There's also a huge ornately-carved wooden bar; so you can enjoy a beverage while "shopping".

    Here's the link: http://autocollections.com/

  6. Bass Pro near Diamond Bar turnoff just off Hwy 15.

South of most of the casinos.

Good shopping for you and your wife even if you're not a hunter or fisherman.

Large aquariums, indoor river, waterfall, ducks and all.

Casino attached and a good restaurant in the back.

Big place, it'll take you a while to see it all.

Well worth the stop, your wife will love it.

The thing I didn't see when I had a layover, in one of the joints towards the north end of the strip, they have several of the old neon signs restored and hanging indoors.

Course I had my 13 yr. old with me so we were a bit "limited" with our sight seeing.

If you are staying in the MGM, I think Studio 54 was there and if you like to dance, that would be the place to go. The forum shops in Ceasars are cool and there is a high end Sports Car dealer inside. They had a few muscle cars last time I was there. Also, go to the Peppermill for a drink. Diner on one side, bar on the other and it is a pretty cool place to go relax and have a drink. Sit around the firepit and chill........

I used to go to Vegas quite a bit on business, and used to deal with an atty there whose office overlooked the junkyard where all the old vegas signs go to die.

Really surreal vibe with that place. A photog's wet dream.

There's more to do in vegas than could be covered here.

Actually I hit all the antique malls & stores since I am in the Antique Business. Found a lot of cool things. Plus, EVERY ashtray ever made and put in a casino or hotel apparently ends up in an Antique store. MILLONS of them it seems. But there are a lot of cool things from old Vegas for sale as well. Just a thought if you like to hunt for stuff like I do........

  13. Kingman, Arizona is a good place to stop for antiquers.

Couple of big pawn shops and a small one all within one block.

    Kingman street drags, Sept. 18,19 & 20.

If you like to ride, rent a bicycle and ride the Red Rock Canyon loop. I will never go to Vegas ever again without doing that. It beats any show I have ever seen there.

We rented from McGhees -- $40/day for a nice road bike. I'd go to them again. There are other bike shops, too but I don't have any experience with them.

I'll be there in October and you can be sure that's what I'll be doing.
