Everyday! No problems as long as i get the work done.My boss, she´s into some dogs forums, so we live in peace.
i live out back of my studio so the first thing i do most mornings is to log on to the hamb. being the boss means i can jump on any time nothings happening. so when im not on much, it means work got busy.
Don't know as I'd call it "sticking it to the man", as many workplaces and bosses now realize that social networking - within reason - is an acceptable stress reliever, and healthier than a smoke break (don't get me started, I'm a former 3 pack a day-er & still miss 'em after 27 years without one). I usually have one or more sites (HAMB, NASCAR or JAYSKI) lurking in the background to flip on every so often. Due to security issues where I work (DoD/Army) we're not allowed access to sites like Youtube, craigslist and a slew of others. I work to live and my customers - the soldiers - come first of course. Always have, always will so we don't abuse the luxury of bosses who don't monitor our HAMBing it up. Very lucky that my chain of command allows us to do what we do in order to get the job done.
I find very little time to be on the HAMB when I am at home. Most of my HAMB time happens on company time.
the only problem i have with being on the hamb at work is trying to explain why i cant help my boss sell his late model parts on the board
I'm not a Desk Jockey but I have access to a computer at work for tech info, shop manuals and wiring diagrams etc. Before work and during breaks, I can usually be found "HAMBin' it up". Too busy at home!
Yep, I look at it off and on all day. Tons of good stuff to look at. I spend my evenings with my kids and usually stay off the computer. However when they go to bed I get a chance to go back on.
Yeah, I don't smoke either, so I try to use my "smoke break" time appropriately! They do have a lot of the music and video sites like YouTube, etc. blocked, but you can get on sites like the HAMB pretty much at will. Of course we KNOW that they track the amount of time and what sites that we visit, but as long as you stay away from the girlie sites and the music downloading sites they pretty much leave us alone. I'm a Mechanical Designer, so the discussions here COULD sometimes be passed off as "work related" if we're talking about engineering and fabrication!!! (Although it was a little hard to explain how "dryer sheets" fit in to the world of defense contracting and US Navy Ships...)
Well, I did fire one cad guy for being on the internet too much (facebook, etc ad nausem). If he had been smart enough to have it on the HAMB he might have made it. Having said that I pretty much keep it open all day.
Thank god for this..it's saving me from giving up on the season. I was unemployed from my full time job for like 3 months and had to move garages and just got buried with other work to keep the ol' head above water. I'm hoping I can at least cruise Alter Boys this year with enough time..thank god the HAMB is putting a spark back in my ass to get it done!!
I work from home.......the "work" laptop is a HAMB virgin still. Of course my computer is tuned in most all day...........OK!! all day
I've been politely chastised a few times for spending so much time on here ... but have become more circumspect about my HAMB addiction lately so no big deal. I still get the work done so no huge complaints. I'm kind of doing myself a disservice since all my time on here reminds me that I hate my job and would much rather spend all my waking hours getting shit accomplished in the garage. Seems like by the time I DO get home, I'm tapped creatively and have very little energy to do much of anything productive.
"its my idea finder for my art",, pc at work is supposed to be for work only,,,so i look up pics on here and print em out then draw them so i dont get in trouble
The HAMB and DuckusCrapus got cut off here for about 4 months until the main IT guy needed me to do something for him. I mentioned my "car sites" were cut off and he opened them back up. I figured there was no use complaining since we are here to work, but it sure pissed me off. CRAB
Every place that I have worked (mostly Government) since the Internet began has been very negative on employees surfing the web while on the clock. "An honest day's work for an honest day's pay" is the way management thinks in almost any professional level career field. Visit any pornography site while on the clock and you're canned. Visit dating or social sites and you are suspect, and likely to be councelled about it. Visiting hobby-related sites might be tolerated if it is few and far between, but it still tends to put a negative aura around you in the bosses mind, and doesn't help you if you have aspirations for promotions, etc. "Industry" and alignment with the mission and vision of the company are very important for long term career goals. That's my experience. I was only on the HAMB at work about a half dozen times since I became a member of the HAMB.
I hamb it up all day long while working. I mean you have to do something between coats of paint right? Tim
On all the time, work comes first, but I seem to still have plenty of time to browse. I get caught sometimes, but does not seem to be an issue.
I'm in a boring meeting right now. I'm at the end of the table, so everyone thinks I am veiwing the web conference. Haven't been busted yet.
my own boss at the shop, should be working, but here I am for the last 3 hours..when the biz fails because of my inattention,I'm suing Ryan....
It's harder to admit to being a pencil pusher/ bean counter/ desk jockey then admitting to being on here while at work. I spend my lunch time on here and if I'm sitting on hold to long I am opening up the HAMB.
I run the studio here so I cant fire myself. In my work you never know when its going to get busy, so we are here waiting for the work to come in. So for me besides email its HAMB. Slim
Yep, 5-6 times a day or more. Pretty addicted i guess. I own the place but that dont make it right . Only one employee that might read this an confess, shes on here as well. ( Run Around Sue ) Cant be good for business and production , however could be very good for just plan on enjoying the workplace. Ya thats it , it is a good thing.......... Right Sue ??
Would have the HAMB up all day @ work. (minimized) Guesting it. Had to use the computer a lot and actually concentrate on what I was doing. So, to keep from losing my mind every so often I would check what was happening and brighten up the day. Didn't feel too guilty cause you could find me all hours of the nite doing work at home. Saved myself and resigned in March. Now instead of doing all those projects I had planned...here I am. All hours of the day and nite and not getting anything accomplished, but havin' fun
I'm on all day every day. Luckily I work in the automotive aftermarket so I can get away with it but I am getting questioned alot.
