Found the surfboard, not the car, last week. I'm very excited about the find. My wonderful wife thinks I'm crazy. The board says the "Surf Shop". Found out it's Oneil's Surf Shop located in Santa Cruz Ca. They are one of the worlds largest wet suit makers. Approx. early 60's vintage. I have relatives that live in Santa Cruz Ca. (small world). Now I've got to re-arrange my garage wall art, this surfboard's almost 12 ft. long. Gary
That thing would bring quite a bit if you just had it sawed into lumber Just kidding, that is very cool no matter what its money value is
can you find who shaped it? it should be near the fin. I think Doug Haut used to shape for O'neill around that time. That'd be a real piece of history if it's a Haut.
I'll go out and check it over in the morning. Any advice or information will be appreciated. If it said "John Deere" on I could get plenty of input. Thanks Gary
The wagon was my son's first car. He picked it, not me. But I have wanted it for about ten years now. He drove it through his high school years and it just sat in my ex-wife's garage for five college years. I knew he would be in need of some money after graduating. So when he asked if I wanted it, a deal was made. I'm just it's care-taker. The wagon will always be his, if he ever wants it back. Gary
When the wind is out of the north west and blowing, there is a point on Lake Francis Case in Pickstown SD with a surfable brake.Never seen a board on it.Nice wagon, cool find.
That sucker is a banzai pipeliner fer shure. Tell us the story. I had a "log" till the dammmmm ex sold it at a yard sale cause it thought my board didnt mean anything to me anymore. I'll allways be lookin to replace the log.
damn, I feel like watching "BIG WEDNESDAY." If you havent seen it,....i think you need to especially now that you have that board. here is the first minute or so http://www.signonsandiego.com/entertainment/street/2008/06/big_wednesday_cult_surf_movie.html
Here's the story, there is a local junk yard just south of town that I frequent. Sometimes the deals are good and sometimes not so good. Approximately 15 years ago I saw the very same board there lying on the ground and never thought twice about it. Our car club "The Roadburners" co-hosted a car show in Gretna Ne. and our very own Sololobo brought some surfboards and tiki stuff. We visited about the value of vintage surfboards and tiki stuff. Two weeks ago I was wandering through the junk yard looking for old bicycle parts and there was the very same board lying in this old shed, with bike parts covering it. The yard owner was happy to make a deal right before he left on vacation. He won a trophy at our car show and was in a good mood. He wants to help out with home-made trophy parts for next year's show. Seems I made a friend out of the deal. Thanks for your time, Gary P.S. I wish I had taken a picture before I dug it out and loaded into the wagon.
