Don't miss out. This event was great last year. 20 nostalgia funny cars, 20+ gassers. Nitro dragsters. August 15. "Under the lights"
Great Lakes Gassers are coming in with 8 cars this year, we had a great time last year racing under the lights and look forward to doing it again. The track had a huge crowd on hand and the stands were full. It was great to be invited back this year. Jon Here are the 8 cars that Great Lakes Gassers have going.
The Nostalgic Notions group has 10 gassers coming over from NE Ohio. At this point I haven't seen a list to know who is coming - besides myself anyway I went last year as a spectator because the car was in many peices (many ugly little aluminum peices...). It was a great time. I don't think I've every seen a crowd that big at a small track. I had to wait in line for 25 minutes for food - and it was 10:00 at night! It'll be fun to run with you guys this time. Perry
The crowd is in for a great show this year, Nostalgic Notions have some great looking cars in there group and it should be a good time. Jon
Which day, friday evening or saturday day, is better to spectate? Does it compare to the Thompson Gasser show? I couldnt make Thompson, so this sounds good. Let me know what ya'll think is best day to go and take family. My Bday is the 13th, so I can pretty much make plans without any backlash
Saturday. You won't see much on Friday - it's just test and tune at the track. Most of the funnies and gassers won't be there until Saturday, or if they are they will probably just be setting up camp and not running. Most of our group is going down Saturday morning. As far as comparison to Thompson - there's only going to be about 20 gassers there. But there will be close to 20 nostalgia funnies too, so it'll be a good show. Remember - this really isn't a nostalgia race, it's a nostalgia show that's run in conjunction with the tracks regular Saturday race. Still - a good time will be had by all
Gonna' be a big show! MCIR is a fun place to race, its laid back and has a party atmosphere. The food is good and the beer is cheap. You can camp for free, a lot of guys show up Friday night and don't leave until Sunday. Gates open at 5PM on Friday, 9AM on Saturday with time runs starting at 10AM. You'll probably get as many time runs as you want at the Friday test and tune. During the big show on Saturday there will be vintage funnies, Nitro FEDs, gassers, chicks, car corral, show and shine, and some good paying bracket racing in box, no box, street, trophy and bike. First round buy backs too. Sunoco 110 and 112 racing fuel and alky available at the track. http://www.mcir.com/index.php Play it cool and watch out for Ohio cops, they are in a ticketing frenzy.
Back from vacation and all loaded up...will be there tomorrow...after watching those cars on the salt in bonneville, I need some speed!
I see the Orange Nova ALL THE TIME around here, but always when I can't run him down to see where he's going! I wish I could go, but my wifes Grandma's 98th b-day is tomorrow, so we're going up north. At least I get to go to the AMC gig at Greenmead on Sunday! Have fun everyone, and be safe! JK
The Nitro FED's, funny cars and gassers put on a heluva good show at the MCIR quarter mile Saturday night. A couple of the funny cars ran 7.0's @199+. The place was a jam-packed party of cool cars and folks of all ages. Lots of food, beer and some great racing too! Here are some photos taken during the event.
Cool stuff, but one question, what is up with the green Vette with the ass-backwards chassis? The rollcage through the engine opening on a flopper? Something way way wrong going on here. The 66 Coronet AWB is unique, never happened but looks kinda cool.
this a wheel stander ? <img src=http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=734267&d=1250477862>
