is it time for a frame pic thread?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by sko_ford, Jul 31, 2009.

  1. there are a lot of great threads on the hamb and my to favorite type are the build threads and the pic threads. now of the build threads the pics i most enjoy are the frame shots since one doesnt see alot of the chassis after the car is done.

so i want to start a pic thread of just chassis shots

Another frame for a 29 sedan I did. 4" front step. I forget the rear kick specs.

Another I did for a local guy. I think like 6" kick in front on this one. Not sure what's going on it.

There's a bunch more of this in my profile ALBUMS and some in my Hamb o Dex add. Look up 47 Industries.

Hey Mike47, any details on those truck arms? Are they NASCAR pieces or something you made? I like them.

I got them from Hot Rods to Hell in Burbank (I think that's where they are). They are 4" shorter than stock truck arms. I was gonna get them from a nascar supplier but they were taking too long to get them to me. I guess the big names get their stuff first. They guy at HHtH hooked me up. He suggested the shorter ones and supplied the pads for the rear too. I made my own blocks. They worked out nice. My car only has a 97" wheelbase.

Im a a little new with building a whole frame, so I was woundering, Why is the crossmembber there? Is it, say, important so when you hit the gas your frame doesnt tweak? Or... ummm maybe tranny mount. Or????

A cross member can provide support for both the trans or motor as well as preventing the natural tendency for a frame to twist under acceleration.

It's a '32 frame, came out from under an old Model A coupe that had sat with the rear in the mud and rotted out the back end.

We used the stock frame for the Vicky build. Running a stroked 348 (408) we figured the old girl could use some support. Jimmy White, master fabricator, lays in "WWWW" pattern with bulkheads in the channel with tabs extending above the channel just the thickness of the boxing plates, cutting corresponding slots to accept those tabs in the boxing plates and then welds and smooth each protruding tab. Bracing runs the entire length of the rails. This was at the very start of the build and only a taste of what was to come. Talented guy that Jimmy.

Here's some pics of the frame for my '29 rpu. It's a T.C.I. frame to which I fitted a stock 'A' rear cross member and fabricated the x-member and trans mount.I'm also mounting the split wishbones as far in-board as I can to hopefully give the illusion that they're un-split.Sorry for the poor picture quality!
