Lower it, lose those slap-a-caps and get rid of that DAMN Chevvie motor and you will be set.

Really, the Chevvie motor can stay if it has to. I might not like it, but I'll have to get over it.

    Nice car, -Abone.

Never owned a 57 Pontiac
In fact, the only Pontiac I ever owned was a 1972 Trans Am 455 HO ( in 1972/1973/1974 ). But I almost bought a 1957 Pontiac Safari wagon a few years back.

This one is NOT it but very similar.
BUT ... someone had removed all the chrome and stailless trim aand I figured I would NEVER be able to find it all ... so I passed.

You have a neat old Pontiac :D
    Congratulations

Getting A/C installed will probably be a ton easier/cheaper with the SBC. Just get an under-dash unit with heat and A/C and then you can ditch that factory heater that hangs where the master cylinder should be at, and the under-seat unit if it has one. Looks nice, should bring it down 2-3 inches front and rear and get some different wheel covers and you'll be ready to roll!

I would like to know what about a SBC would make the A/C cheaper.

I'll tell you what, nothing.. not a damn thing. Same compressor, same everything. The only different thing at all may be a compressor mount and they are easy to make. And the pulleys for the Poncho's aren't difficult to get either...

I know you can make anything. I know all the parts are the same. I know you can buy all the pulleys for the Pontiac motor. My point is that with a SBC you can buy all the parts off the shelf, put it together charge it up and cool air will come out the vents. So I will say I was wrong, it may not be cheaper but it will be easier based on the fact you won't have to make anything or search around for the correct combination of 50+ year old parts

No need to search, the parts are a phone call away (from multiple sources)... nothing hard about it. And after looking no more expensive than a SBC. The people that have the "everything is cheaper and easier with a SBC" are fooling themselves. Add "more reliable and easier to make power" as well.... what a load. I think it's plain lazy and unimaginative.

On chevys you just cut a couple coils off the front springs and use lowering blocks between the rearend and the leafs in the back.

I think WWW and chrome wheels with baldy caps would look great.
But for factory type wheel covers, you can look here:

    http://www.hubcaps.org/

They have pics of most vintage wheel covers ('50's and up).

Great looking Poncho, by the way. You must be stoked!
