I can't seem to get the lug bolts off the tire any help would be awesome I have wd-40 and an impact wrench them sh!ts is on there
If it's on the driver's side, there's a good chance that it could be reverse thread. What sort of car is it?
Is there a littl letter "L" on the end of the stud? I once broke a braker bar in Lovelock trying to change a tire on my trailer with International spindles. Then I saw the "L".
If they aren't LHT, try some penetrating oil(Aerokroil or the like). WD-40 is good for squeaky hinges. We always keep a can of Kroil around for these types of situations.
Left handed threads on the left side of this car reverse impact -try again. If it is the fronts take the drum off and oil from the inside -try again. Heat them up let them cool down -try again.
You said lug bolts, if it's an old car with bolts instead of nuts heat one of the bolt heads red hot, then let it cool naturally until you can touch it comfortably, spray some wd on it then try air wrench. If it's the front do what 30 dodge said
try the trans fluid and acetone/brake fluid tip .it was on the Hamb a few mos back. It works.if you don't have acetone use brake fluid and trans fluid.
WD-40 is a water displacement. You either have reverse threads, or you need to use PB Blaster. The stuff is a penetrating oil that will brake any bolt I've had a problem with.
noticed in your signature that you have a 53 desoto...those have, I believe, both left and right hand threads on opposite sides of the car...
1953 desoto powermaster would the threads be leftys I'm trying the driver side the heads are rusted I can't see any letters
Left side is LH rotation on many Mopars...do not know if true for '53. Attack one you have not tried yet turning clockwise...see what happens!
Like everyone else said, and I like to use heat + parafin wax it wicks up and helps lube the threads don't get it so hot the wax catches on fire. I have also fractured bolts by heating red hot and taking a can of spray "air" (the computer stuff) and inverting the can so the liquid shoots out. red hot to instant cold fractured the nut. The liquid is super cold Make sure you don't buy the flamable kind, that would be bad.
Studebaker threaded them like that too. And yes, i've spent a good 5 mins trying to figure out why my lug nut wont loosen or tighten. i'd go with a cheater bar and large hammer.
sorta O/T when dealing with L hand thread vehicles, when facing the vehicle on the driver side turn the bolt towards the rear, clockwise on the left, counterclockwise on the pass side ..seems dumb now, but when I was a kid in the '60's learned the hard way on some cars as mentioned.
Figure out which way to loosen, then liberally apply a breaker bar with a 3 or 4 foot pipe extension.
If its seized on , spray some " Moove-It" (sp) You may have to buy that from an Industrial Supplier Best I've ever seen or used
He said lug bolts, but he also said he cannot get them off the tires - makes me wonder how they got on the tires in the first place.... Kids nowadays get dumbfounded by LH threads and not the first time I have seen this question on this forum. Like the teenage car hop who, when I left my '58 Chrysler in the middle of the restaurant parking lot with the keys in it, was unable to find the starter button on the PB trans. The car was still where I left it and there was one embarrassed kid, when I returned one and a half hours later.
Nobody mentioned the torch and candle wax. The absolute best I've used when PB won't do it. And yeah I'm sure it was left hand thread. Mopars kept that until 69 on many of their products.
