Around these parts is a speed shop celebrating 55 years young and still charging hard. For your visual enjoyment and a pictorial past.
The Karbelt digger....and Don used to race there too....I believe Cayuga or Niagra.... I know Don is a Hamber....maybe he would chime in and tell us some war stories
Percy again.... and more. Man....you gotta have balls of steel to drive an Anglia......that short wheelbase is insane........... Enjoy fellas.
I remember reading about Karbelt Speed & Custom many years ago. Here's their site: http://www.karbelt.com/ Dave http://www.roadsters.com/
Hey Brush: Isn't there a clone of the Fiat being built right now? Second, "Fast Eddy", isn't that Eddy Brick who is still building chassis and complete drag cars?
The Fiat was one of Canada's most popular drag cars due to the success in the NHRA and is pictured on PG#65 of "Diggers, Funnies, Gassers & Altereds" by Bob McClurg....
I used to get all my parts at the Karbelt Speedshop in Oakville back in high school. Wish they were still there, still got the sticker on my toolbox though.
GREAT PICS JEFF! That digger looks like it's got a Wayne Ewing body;really slick! Those Anglias and Topolinos are a real handful;they used to put on as good a show as the AA/FA cars. When I lived out east there was a guy who had a AA/A Fiat that used to take it out on the street his gas station was on occasionally;usually very late at night.Nothing like the sound of a 392 in full song at 3am!
Here's my 57 Chevy KARBELT Franchised Drag Car through CLAUDE PRIMEAU SPEED SHOP in St.Isidore, Quebec. Most likely built from the Latter Part of the 60's and the Car is still the same as Built way back then. Speed Shop No longer Exists.
No he sold it when my youngest sister was born in 1969. He ran the 30 Ford body first then went open body fiberglass. I'm building a 30 Ford Rat presently And I was just searching around the site when I saw Karbelt posted so I went in deeper. His original car was a KarKraft then became Karbelt. He still watches every telivised drag race, I don't think hot rodding or drag racing ever leaves your blood every thing we ever owned was modified or altered. It was cool to see pics of the old man 45 years ago posted. Thanks for the memories, Jay Adam
my memories aren't as good they wanted to sell me chrome they had in the shop and not the parts I wanted they said they were for professionals and wouldn't order them even if I paid up front, so I went elsewhere and never ever went back
Hey Mr Norwell; I'd like to have a dollar for evertime I have been ask if OUR fiat was the Karbelt car~~ For some reason ,everyone in Ontario figured there was only ever ONE up here. In the mid 60's, ours had won the U S nationals TWICE... Their Karbelt Fiat gained a lot of exposure at the 69 Springnationals..Ran hard, and looked good.. The Karbelt Fiat thats being recreated has many of the original parts. Been hearing about it for 10 yrs and never seen it !! As for the Dragster, Farndon ,Arnold Oska and Foote... it also looked and ran hard..Seen them a lot of times in St Thomas..I believe Fred is in his 70's and still pilots a nostalgia top fueller..HOW KOOL is that ! As we fast forward to 2010,Kevin & Lisa Dundas owns/pilot a Nos. Super stock car under the "Karbelt Pickering" banner.. Hemi powered ,wheelstanding 8 second car.. Great stuff ! Rick
