Apparently, the eminent domain issue was part of his decision. Hear is one paragraph taken from Nick's letter to the Early Ford V8 Club members, as posted in the May/June 2009 issue of the V8 Times:

"My decision to sell the bulk of our collection was based on several factors. We have been under the threat of losing our wonderful building to eminent domain for some time and Costco seems determined to see it through, although recently they have put negotiations with the city on hold."

As I understand it, they were taken out and driven on a regular basis! Can you imagine walking in there, looking at all those pristine vehicles, and thinking to yourself; "which one of these bad boys needs a little exercise today?".

Man thats cool as hell. Thanks for sharing. As much craftsmanship involved and labor intensive as those were, I'd hate to see how much they would cost if made today. They don't make 'em like they used to. haha.

I keep coming back and drooling over all of the '57s. I hope the buyers leave them as-is.

A HUGE thank you to Mazooma for these pictures. Several days in a row I've opened this post and gotten a smile on my face from ear to ear!

All those 39 Deluxe models are really making me drool. Think I see a 42 or so in there as well, on top of their rarety they are really neat looking. Only ever seen the business coupe outside of Nick's collection.

Back to the top you go!

Any ideal how long it took to collect that many cars ? I'll bet there are
some great stories behind each one.

He says that one reason the collection must be downsized is because no one else in his family has the old car gene. Okay, I'll vonlunteer to help care for these incredible wagons.

The auction will help lots of guys get woodies without the aid of Viagra! :)

Seriously, what a collection! it is sad to see it split up. Will there be a seperate auction for all the unrestored cars and parts?

Any of the woodies would be great to have, but this would be towards the top of my list too......

I'd LOVE to have a nice unrestored 40 coupe to go along with my Hot Rod!

I really wanted to try and get out there to see this beautiful collection before it is broken up, but it just wasn’t to be. I just started working on a basket of rotten splinters formally known as a 36 Ford Wagon, and I just can’t even dream of ever having more than one. I understand the old building was pretty cool as well, with all of its big windows and skylights providing natural light for the collection.

Did you happen to hear any indication of what is going to become of his rather sizable collection of parts, patterns and literature? I understand that he had several crafts persons working for him, and that they may still operate a restoration shop. Any more info on that?<O:p</O:p

  27. Thanks for sharing these pics, did I hear there's a national termites convention done the street ?
