What are your favorite car movies?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by theoneyouhate, Jul 19, 2009.

  1. I cant remember if it was a Tales of the Crypt or the later Twilight Zone series movie. It was about a street racer goin town to town looking for the top dog street racer. He finds them and races the guys but at the top end makes them wreak and kills them off so he will for ever have the title. He would tattoo there names on his arm.He has a yellow chevell or a nova. At the end he meets his last victim that pulls out his Nasty bad ass 55 Chevy and turns the tables on him. Does it ring a bell

  2. Catch Me If You Can. Black Chevelle making money by street racing.

  3. It's great on Mystery Science Theater 3000. :D
    Graffitti,
    Bullitt, Best chase scene
    Gumball rally,
    Not a car movie
    but bikes,
    Easy Rider
    Smokey and the Bandit,
    Cars
Beach Blanket Bingo, Great drag racing.
American Graffitti 2 for the race scenes,
    Cannon ball rally,

The first 5 minutes of War of the Worlds with Cuise's GT 350H.

  4. No particular order:
    American graffiti
Gone in 60 Seconds (the remake)
Phantasm (not many cars but one sweet 'Cuda in it)
Dazed and Confused (again, not really a car movie, but there are some SWEET rides in it).
    Smokey and the Bandit
I know there are more, but I can't think of them right now.....

  5. Oh, I forgot about "The Wraith", really cheesy 80's, but great chase/race scenes.

If you mean the original 1950's version you're correct, it is a classic. Chock full of early 50's British sports cars. IIRC there are even some on track scenes with Cunninghams and Allards. They may have called the Cunningham and Allard sports cars but they were true American hot rods in my book.

I've been customizing some of my die cast into sets of, mostly, main character cars from car movies. Need 2 more cars for my Gumball Rally set though, and I'm working on a couple more for my Hollywood Knights set.

I just bought and watched Hometown USA, directed by Max Bear (Jethro Bodine). It's not too bad. Corny acting but a good movie to just sit back and watch.

I copied and pasted this from one of my previous posts about car movies:
    T-bird gang.

The blob. Has a 1940 Ford coupe racing backwards near the beginning.

    Hot Rods to Hell.

    The wild ride.

Hot Rod girl. Has some cool roadsters racing.

    The Choppers.
    The Lively set.

There are actually a ton of movies out that are "car related".
Not all of them are hot rod or traditional rod related. But, none the less, they are car related. Here's a short list of ones off the top of my head.
    Tucker
    Gumball ralley
    cannonball
    The cannonball run movies.
    eat my dust
The last chase. Lee Majors had a race car buried in his garage.
    Viva Las Vegas. with Elvis
    Spinout. With Elvis.
The car. Laughed my ass off when the car is doing donuts outside the cemetery.
Chitty Chitty bang Bang. Love that car.
Those daring young men in their jaunting jalopies.
The great race. Love those old cars.
Village of the giants. I think this one had a T getting it's body tore off when it tries to wrap ropes around a giant and pull it down.
    High School Caeser.
    Ghost of dragstrip Hollow.
A bunch with Annette Funicello and Frankie Avalon have cars in them too.

There was an old beach movie where they go through a car show. I think they were chasing a go-kart or something like that. Can't remember the name though.

Hey anybody seen Humprey Bogart in High Sierra? They have some cool coupes. I think he drives a 1938 plymouth coupe up in the mountains. The car has a ship sail hood ornament. Or is a it a Dodge? Check it out.

Man, I'm glad I read through these after I posted mine. There were some I forgot about and need to watch ASAP! Stroker Ace, California Kid, and you can't forget...nor did I see mentioned (might have overlooked it) The Heavenly Kid. That movie was bad ass. Also, Phantasm II...even though the ending was crap.
