So I was watching tv and the original vanishing point came on and i was just curious of what everyones favorite car movies were. like smokey and the bandit, american graffiti, two lane black top, and Christine. I'm having a little trouble thing of some that are more about hot rods than muscle cars.

    Movies, in random order:

    vanishing point

    American Graffiti

Mad Max(the opening chase scene still kicks ass, find the restored 20th anniversary dvd)

    The Road Warrior

    smokey and the bandit

Thunder Road (1958 / moonshine movie with Robert Mitchum)

    Cannonball Run (the first one)

The Car (creepy killer/demon black car stalks a town and runs over people)

Ronin - kinda a caper/spy movie but it has an amazing chase sequence with very little music and lots of engine sounds and effects... great to watch on surround sound.

Gone in 60 Seconds (2000) - not the best movie, but at least they got the sounds of the cars right

The Transporter movies have at least one cool chase sequence per film.

Moonshine Highway - a made for cable movie supposedly about moonshine running... but it had a cool '54 or so lincoln with a cage...

When I was a kid I loved the movie Convoy because it had lots of semi trucks in it... but it's not really a great movie. We used to watch it while we played with our hot wheels.

Not really a car movie, but the airplane, the parachute training, and the hitching the cadillac to the passing train with a steel cable, is all about rolling on the floor with laughter: Fandango.

  9. "The giant gila monster" is a goofy 1959 horror movie that has some really cool early hot rods running around in it.

    Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry

    Thunder Road

    Used Cars

    Christine

  13. In no particular order:

    American Graffiti
    Vanishing Point
The California Kid(made for TV,but great nonetheless)
    Hollywood Knights
    Thunder Road
Beach Blanket Bingo(great drag racing scenes-not enough,though-and it has Annette;need I say more?)
    Gumball Rally

I've not seen many of the older "B" Hot Rod-themed movies;I'm sure there's plenty.

    always loved hollywood knights.
my favorite has to be Hot Rod. guy wrecks his mopar on the way to a drag competition and someone gives him a willys gasser frame. great scenes.
THE VAN -cheesy but funny Danny DeVito is in it.
High Riders- like a low budget 70s biker movie but with cars. all ther cars have side pipes and wheel flares.
then there's all the 50s car movies- hot rod girl, drag strip girl, hot rod riot, high school confidential is a good one. and The Choppers is a good one too

    Any Haliki movie.
    Junkman, original gone in 60.
    2lane blacktop
    hollywood knights
graffiti (even the second, though its not so great)

As long as there's some cars and maybe a chase, and you don't say Fast and Furious (first through 17)
Grab the popcorn and dim the lights.

  22. Hey, if anyone's curious there's like a 10+ page thread on favorite car movies already posted.

While not a car movie, McQ, the cop movie John Wayne made when he realized he'd made a mistake to turn down the original Dirty Harry, has some great scenes of him putting a '72 Trans Am through it's paces in Seattle that I never get tired of.

Christine, love that movie, can't tell you how many times I've seen it or read the book, got just about every diecast or model of that car.
Smokey and the Bandit, saw that at a drive-in in a full sized station wagon, am I dating myslef yet, never heard my Dad laugh so hard in his life.
Cannonball Run, Hooper, Road Warrior, Mad Max, Vanishing Point, Hollywood Knights, the California Kid.
You name it, if it's about cars I love it.
