I have this Mallory unit... i think it's a mopar The id tag # sez Mallory double Life part# YC497HP any clues..or is the a site for id? thanks
If it was from a 318 yes lenghten the shaft and you are good If it was from a 440/426 no, spins the wrong way
Looks like mine in my 331 Hemi... Make sure you clean the wire connectors real good in cap base not fun to reassemble... Mallory has info on web I gota find it again!
The length from the flange to the end of the shaft is unique between different motors. 413-426-440 RB and 426 hemis are in one group, 350-361-383-400 B-motors are another, 273-318-340-360 and other small blocks are another, 331-354 hemi and 301-331-354 poly, 392 is by itself. I have no idea about the dodge, plymouth and desoto hemis, but they are likely shorter than the 331-354 chryslers and grouped based on the deck height. I think small blocks are the longest and b-big-blocks are the shortest. Lucky you it could be any of these. Measure the length and someone here could probably measure theirs and tell you exactly what it is. You could probably swap it even if it spins the wrong way, so long as you can reverse the advance.
While on the subject anyone want to trade me a 331/392 orginal supermag for the 426 original supermag i have??
Don't hate me cause I'm beautiful. Hate the mad google skills http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230348389032&viewitem= THIS IS A USED MALLORY DOUBLE-LIFE DISTRIBUTOR PART # YC-497-HP THAT FITS MOPAR 273-318-340-360. I BOUGHT THIS DISTRIBUTOR NEW TO USE IN MY WORK TRUCK (1963 DODGE) AFTER MY ORIGINAL ONE FAILED. I REMOVED IT WHEN I SOLD THE TRUCK AND IT HAS BEEN IN STORAGE SINCE. THE DISTRIBUTOR IS IN VERY GOOD CONDITION WITH THE ORIGINAL BOX AND INSTRUCTION SHEETS WITCH ARE DATED 7\71. THIS IS A DUAL POINT DISTRIBUTOR.
Well Shifty , you are bee-u-ti-ful! I can get the longer shaft from hotheads and drop into another project thank yee!
FWIW, rotation direction is the real challenge. Shaft length can always be changed. I converted a 413/426/440 counter clockwise rotation tach drive dist to a clockwise rotation and used it in my 354 for a little while. Here's what I did. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=12236&highlight=hemi+distributor+tach+drive
