  6. If I wrote in stone everytime someone gave me 'history' on vintage race cars, I'd have a lot of screwed up doorstops. Nonetheless, the challenge of pursueing the truth IS the hunt.

Hell, I would be lucky to give a detailed account of what happened last week. When your talking 40-50 y.o. history you have to take it all with a grain of salt.

    Hi Rootie,
The Hilly sprint #57 that Spike talked about is in Colorado in a private collection. Also, the Bud Sherk car was the MacNamara/ Hoyt car that Jerry lost his life in. That car is in N.H. The Al Herman/ Curtis offy in a collection in Fla. Fun stuff!

Thanks, thats very interesting. Colo. was never really a hot bed of open wheel racing, wonder if there's a story behind how it found its way here.

Built a "Miller" style insert for the cast aluminum grille shell on the B-ville car. Had the "bars" water jetted out, then built a jig to hold them, then built a bezel. all out of Stainless..

    Enjoy..

Is that the original fuel tank on the really old blue car? If so, what was it made of? Thanks for any info.
That car sure had a gigantic engine!

That #57 car was restored by a Sowers Family in Perkasie, PA. They split the collection a while back, and put it all up for i think an auction.. Am i right. Wynns1?

Start of the 1st of twin 50 lappers, Langhorne, Apr. 63- Herk and Cotton Farmer bringing the field down. Starting 7th is Bobby Marvin in the #44.

Marvin dicing with Herk during the race where he finishes 4th. Of course, in the 2nd race he has, probably, one of the more 'infamous' and horiffic crashes of the era and is killed.

In just a matter of weeks Hank Rodgers shows up at a Hatfield URC race in the 'rebuilt' former 44 and finishes 4th in the main.

Thank you Gene for sharing these gems!

I`m always ready to see more of this type of thing.

BTW Joe`s Old car with SBC is at Latimore in the EMMR in last raced type condition last time I was there.

Only in Sprint car racing, can you watch THREE cars, haul her into one, bicycle up, and destroy themselves QUALIFYING!! They did it damn near 3 in a row at the Burg last night.

What do you think would happen if they crashed 3 cars in row QUALIFYING all by themselves in NASCRAP... Think they'd shut down Qualifying, Stop everything till there "Experts" pin-pointed the exact part on the car.. or the track for that matter, that is causing all the "terrible destruction"?

    Not in Open wheel racing..

"scrape that shit of the track boys, it's in the groove.. now stand back and push me off"

God I love this stuff! :D

  30. This is Off Topic, but......if you could have seen the race Dave Darland and Bryan Clauson put on at the 'Burg last night....you would never watch the taxicabs again. Headed for Gas City in a little while... if the rain stops......what rut in turn one, I didn't see no rut.....well maybe a little one....lol
