The lighter rod you have and the more power you have makes for a faster car (common sense). So who out there actually knows the weight of their car and takes the weight into consideration when building their car?
I weighted my roadster with me in it and it was 2100 lbs. with me in it and I am 180lbs also my sedan weights 2400
at this point the A is about 220# and the T 280#. seriously built the flamed A in the 80's with a 427 and it scaled 2450#.
I weighed my 30 Model A coupe on a Bekins Moving Co. certified scale, and it weighed 2480 pounds. Since then, I've added aluminum door panels, some sound deadener in the floor and a rubber floor mat, so it's safe to call it an even 2500 pounds. This was with a full tank of gas (16 gallons), but no one in the car. In the build process, I kept it in mind to add no un-necessary weight, so without taking extra measures to go light (ie: no floors or just partial floors, no glass, aluminum heads, etc), I don't know how you'd cut that weight by much. My 29 Roadster weighs in at 2340 lbs. It's fiberglass and I was surprised at the number, but you really don't save any weight with a glass car because of the steel reinforcing and I went a little overboard on the steel in mine. Small block Chevy and TH350. Rated at 275 HP. Plenty strong enough for an old guy!!
My T is 1740lbs on a junkyard scale without me and with 5 gal gas. The guy at the yard says the scale is right. 283 T-5 glass bucket. No frills.
My glass T weighs 1840 with 960 on the front and 880 on the rear without me in it, 80 lbs. off 50/50, with my 230 lb. ass in it probably rear heavy. Power to weight is great but it doesn't hook worth a shit.
My '31 A coupe weighs 2300 lbs. without driver. Fenderless, SBC, steel wheels, unfinished interior, 9" rear, 2x3 frame.
My old T Roadster weighs 1750# wet with no one aboard. 283/alum. PG/57 Chevy rear/CAE sprint car front end/56 Pickup steering/ 40 brakes up front/CalAuto glass body.
1,941 pounds. Glass body, steel hood, 8BA with C4 trans. Weighed on a set of those electronic race scales.
