loose the exta wheel, and fenders, and hood.... Keep the tail lights lower it and keep the paint, it doesnt look in to bad of coondition, for the moter I would go 327, 350, or Flatty

Dropped axle and rubber rake for the stance. Flatty or banger, whether early or late model. Keep the fenders but show the motor wit half hood or no hood. Leave the paint and the rest as is.

    Phaeton's are so damn cool...

I guess it depends on what style you may be into. Do you like lakes inspired cars? Show rods?

I know this is a '32, but I really dig lakes style phaetons:

As for a powering it down the road, I dig bangers and flatty's like everyone else (my coupe is banger powered) but you said it was going to be a family hauler? Perhaps something like a mild 283 would be in order. Reliable, parts everywhere, no problem pulling that little A about.

I guess it depends on the 'period' of your car's build. If you build a lakes-style car, then I say go with a flatty/banger and if your building something a little more showy, go with the dreaded SBC.

That's exacty how a Phaeton should look - a '32 or an A fits this bill.

Tubs are great family cruisers! Here a few I saved for reference.
You have great start - looks like a nice car.

    more than welcome.

  19. Does this one use a commercial roadster cowl? Looks like the transition into the doors is not as smooth as a phaeton/roadster would have and the bead on the cowl looks like it may have been modified as it doesn't smoothly meet the beads on either the hood or the doors - Maybe it's just me but . . .

I'd replace the front welled fender with a plain one, 28-29 fenders look great IMO. Model B engine with an OHV conversion would make for a nice ride with the parts you have on hand.

Steve....That's my old #4 tub I built and sold it to a guy in SoCal. It is a glass Wescott body. The belt line was a bit off b/c that side had heavy damage and I'm not a world class bodyman....

  23. Cool none the less - just thought it might be one of the rare RPU cowls repurposed.

  25. Just wondering - are any of the two door Phaetons factory cars, or just owner built from sedans?

??? Isn't a Phaeton essentially a FOUR door roadster? Some two doors sneakng in here, me thinks! Gary

  28. Great find. I vote keep the fenders, no but no hood sides. A trustworthy 283 or 327 would keep family hauling worry free. Dropped axle.

There are 30/31 Ford Tudor Phaetons (Model 180A Deluxe Phaeton).
    ca. 6.100 were produced

But they were the most rare and the heaviest models of that year with the most "model only" parts. This is why they are pretty expensive to start with as collectors want them

I see. What about later year cars that looked like Phaetons but had roll up windows? I hear folks calling them 4-door convertibles instead of Phaetons. Just wondering... Gary
