Recently did a trip on old Route 66 and went through Galena Kansas.
This was the town used in the movie CARS that became Radiator Springs.

The tow truck in the movie was based on this original still sitting outside
now.The building in the second photo is the one modified with the Radiator Springs logo imposed on the side wall.

The characters were based on people who have made their lives on 66
and we met a few of them on our trip

Pretty cool, I was born In Cloquet, and lived just down the road from this station. Doesn't look that way today, there are now supports underneath the cantilevered canopy. There is an upstairs waiting room that peeks out from underneath the canopy where you can sit while your car is (or was) being worked on.

I had one of these when I was six! wonder how much it would be worth now?

it seems funny to me to see those guys whering the doctor like jackets working on cars. my boss is good with jeans, tshirt, and cap. I guess times change though.

  5. Heck when I worked at a Phillips 66 gas station in the late sixties we wore uniforms while we pumped their gas, cleaned the windshield, checked everything under the hood, and air in the tires for 28 cents a gallon. The guys at the Standard station wore a tie and a little hat,
    times have definitely changed

I was looking through about 2000 historic local photos from an archive of Austin, TX and I found this gem.
