Mr Gambino can you get me 2 lengths of the ripple pipe please...If so please pm me on the cost please...
I really hope this works out. I drove to EVERY parts place in the area last fall looking for the ripple pipe and no one carried it. All the Pep Boys stores said that they used to have it, but no more. The flex pipe stuff they have now is total crap, like a dryer vent. If you can make the stuff, I'm down for buying some for sure.
The ripples in the pipe im making will be raised. If the machine Im building works correctly with regular and stainless I will make both. Right now the only size will be 2"od 28 inches long with 24 inches of ripple in wich can be welded to any 2 inch pipe. The ripples are on 1" centers, that gives you 24 ripples.
After years of searching I found a pair of NOS ripple tips, I don't know what car to put 'em on though.
Uhh.........Gambino made some for Kirks Starliner. I understand he also has a secret warehouse packed with things like the Ark of the Covenant, hens teeth and Stu Hilborns Streamliner.
I would say a swaging action would probably be the best way to make it. 2 dies in a press, maybe fill the pipe with sand to keep the ripples uniform during the squeezing process....
Like I said in one of the other replies the ripple's will be raised. I got a call from the machine shop yesterday, they are about through with the machining on my machine.
There's this, but no real info http://calmodified.blogspot.com/2007/10/ripple-pipe-by-cal-modified.html
I'm gonna guess it's going to be hydraformed, much like they do new Corvette frames. http://www.msm.cam.ac.uk/phasetrans/2006/hydroforming.html If you have access to the machine and get a die made, yada, yada it would be easily done.
Ive been out for a while, but Im getting started on this machine again. I went out and bought a lathe to finish the work. The machine shops were killing me.
I think I saw one of these ripple tubing machines for sale in the newest Harbor Freight advertisement flyer that I received in the mail this weekend.

I think it would have been faster to build a time machine, go back to the 60's and buy a bunch of pipe than to make whatever machine you're putting together. Keep on it, though. I could definitely use some when you get it done.
